Well tonight l went to turn the projector on it let out a blue flash from the front of the unit near the switches and tripped the power to the house.
The projector still powers up including the xenon but l have lost all power by the looks to the optical bulb and control start/stop switches, the green light next to them is not lighting up eighther.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated as l don't even know if anyone here in Australia that can repair or service these.

Thanks,
Jason

Try e mailing Bill Parsons Jason or Kevin F or Ugo.
These are all extremely knowledgeable on these machines and maybe able to help you remotely hopefully.

Thanks Andrew,
I have contacted Bill.
It does not look good and I'm not electricly minded so if l can't find someone over here to fix it l am going to have to send it over your way for repairs or I'm going to have one big paper weight.

There must be someone down under Jason with the skills required to fix one of these, surely?

I get it that there won't be a resident Bill Parsons on your doorstep, but you would like to think from his advice and expertise on these in a country the size of yours, there would be some solution better than shipping it half way around the world, while ever someone could refer to a service manual with test points in it etc etc using Bills advice?

Im contacting everyone l know over here so l will wait and see how l go before l send to the UK.
As you said Andrew in a country as big as Australia you would think at least one or two would be able to repair these. [Smile]

I am certain there will be some electronics expert that can come to your aid Jason given a little guidance from one of the expert Xenon specialists like Bill, Kevin, Ugo etc etc plus a service manual.

Hope it goes well for you Jason and please keep us informed how you're getting along.

Pete on here seems very knowledgeable with all things electronic. Perhaps he may be willing to have a look at it for you?

The beauty of the Elmo service manuals I have seen and read is, they all have excellent schematics inside them with useful test points to give you a head start.

This is something sadly lacking with my otherwise, generally very good Beaulieu service manual and therefore you really have to try and generate your own test points and known good values while the machine is still in good health.

Must get around to doing it more soon.As with all these aging machines...there will come a time! (Note to self) [Wink]

He sure is Lee,
He has been a big help so far.

It looks like the projector will be going on a little holiday to the UK as there is no one in Aus that can repair these xenons.

It will no doubt be very expensive for you Jason but at least you know it will receive the very best possible professional treatment there is.

It's a machine well worth preserving is the Xenon.

Andrew,

The shipping cost was not as bad as what l expected plus l know it will be in good hands.
The up side of it all is at least it will get a good going over which wont hurt as who knows how long it has been since it last had a full service.
I've got the standard GS1200 as my back up unit anyway so l can still turn a reel or two it's not as if its the end of the world.
Im trying one last thing tonight and if that fails well l will get it packed up and ready to send.

Ahh the joys of this hobby, if it was a 16mm or 35mm projector it would have been no problems for me to fix but the Xenon Elmo is an electrical component nightmare. [Eek!]

Even if it was a straightforward electrical fault, it's not beyond many on here but as you say the electronics on a GS let alone a Xenon are plentiful and complex to say the least.

Experience on these machines over many many years is everything I would have thought, and where it's going next gives you exactly that.

Let us know once you have it back Jason, with a few pics hopefully mate, it will be fantastic for us all to see it fully working and serviced projecting a lovely lpp colourful print!
