Hi All,

Most of the request of this forum for new spare parts are ready. We are still working on some projects, like the EIKI long play unit 16mm and 8mm nylon rollers.

If there are any other requests for these parts, please let me know!

Not 3D parts Edwin off the top of my head, but is there any progress regarding the possible manufacture or refurbishment of the sound heads we spoke of previously?

Even a refurbishing service would be fantastic if the cores could be replaced with new machined ones as all the worn ones I have all have excellent working coils.

I have found the Woelke 464 heads can be fully dismantled fairly easily.

We have thouroughly investigated fabrication of new sound-heads. The conclusion is that if you have to start from scratch it is very complicated / expensive to make this in a small number.

Also these heads are of good quality and last very long. Our filmscanners run daily several hours en the soundheads are still ok after many years.

So therefore, I don't see on short term a way to go here.

Unless we find a manufacturer of these heads who have previously done this and can make a new batch again. If someone has suggestions for a contact person, let me know!

Ok Edwin, thanks for the update.I hope someone from Germany can provide you with some contact hopefully, even some kind of refurbishment service would be excellent.

On all the heads I have seen with wear, it is always the balance side that is the problem. If these could be made more durable like the Elmo heads, durability wouldn't be an issue for the future on Eumig, Bauer or Beaulieu machines.

Yes the Woelke heads are long lasting, but unlike the Sendust heads used by Elmo, they don't last forever sadly.

It would seem all sound heads are becoming a problem. I've seen a sound archive article saying they only have 20 years before they are completely unobtainable (due to manufacturing plant & skills being redundant), and they expect work to digitise all the tapes they have would take 2-3 times that long.

Yes Brian, I think we all need find a solution to this problem before too long to enable Edwin's and many others hopes to be realized...keeping as many machines as possible going for another 20 or 30 years minimum.

This shows the benefits of using Sendust.
