A tribute thread to all those glorious box arts covers we all remember from our early days. If only they delivered what was shown on the cover. Trust me they will be worth a fortune someday in pristine condition up there with the Andy Warhols. Make a nice memorabilia collection anyway. Feel free to post your photos but stick to the thread content of "science fiction horror or fantasy " I don't want to see a copy of The Rose here [Smile]

I've long been an advocate of the box - When I first started about it, laughing and finger-pointing was the norm towards my efforts, now they are screaming how right I was - Who's laughing now...As to pristine condition, I designated my own, calling it 'Darn-Near Mint', which gives it a 8.5 to a 9.5 leeway - Cellophane-Sealed is another matter - Don't have capabilities to show any pictures, yet be assured - Shorty

I agree, the box was often the best thing about some of these movies , although generally speaking the Castle film quality was excellent.

So far, I have only gathered blackhawk films and so, well, you know how that box story goes... [Smile]

Actually, with Mike's post, I just went and looked and my 'collection'(i use the term loosely in regards to the few films i own) is very very drab cover-wise [Frown]

Boringly, I think the coolest cover that is in 'Darn-Near-Mint" condition I have is Mako- Jaws of Death(super 8 silent).
That thunderbirds cover is cool!

You must have been a pioneer Joe before your time. My particular favourites are the artists imaginations of the film. The old Laurel and Hardy by Mountain are a particular joy. I'm sure some artist was paid virtually nothing to produce.

A few more examples attached . If only the films matched the covers.

Hi all, I too agree...the boxes were works of "tantalisng" art...they pulled you in.

Agree, Mike -- if only the films matched the covers -- particularly Ken's Republic covers. While the art on those particular box covers looked cool, the actual film was a digest of some hoary serial from the 1930s and/or 40s that totally did not match the box art. I quickly learned my lesson back in the early 1970s!

Also, imagine the disappointment 40-plus years ago with the digest MY SON THE VAMPIRE (cool box art) when the film was really an Old Mother Riley!
