The serial number on the back cover of my GS1200 is 827737. Can anyone tell me about what date it was manufactured, and was this early or late in the manufacturing cycle?

Brings me back, Paul!

Elmo Serial Numbers

If I remember right we reached the conclusion that the serial numbers aren't related to the date of manufacture and probably the best indicator is date codes on the internal components.

I did a thread on this on the other place but the main facts seemed to be it wasn't that clear on tying the years to the serials. But halogen GS machines start with 82 and then the rest is the literal number of the machine, xenons have 88 and then the number. There were perhaps 13,000 of the halogen and about 2,000 of the xenon.

I have a machine in the 9,000s with a definite testing date of Jan 1981. Perhaps big numbers were produced in the first few years of production and then smaller runs later on. Perhaps machines were sold in the mid 80s that were new from stock made a few years before. Some machines were assembled by Hanimex from parts maybe even as late as 1990. This sums up what was compiled.
