Hi all,
I won on Trademe in New Zealand a RETRO BLUE PLASTIC FILM REEL CASE for NZ$25,it looked like it holds 8mm films but
when i picked it up it was bigger and way cooler than I expected!
I think it must hold 16mm or maybe 35mm films? And film size of a bit bigger than 400ft.
Has anyone seen these before or is it maybe a limited release for shipping films etc.
It's size is 45 cm long x 25 cm in diameter.

Each gap will hold 2 x 16mm films in cans, which makes me think it could be for 35mm films.

Probably for taking 35 or 16 to the lab from the camera directly. How much film did a 16mm camera used in TV production hold, for instance... something like that.

That's an interesting find...
A 35mm feature was generally delivered on 5 or 6 2000ft/600m transport reels. Sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the total running time.
Transport reels for 2000ft/600m in 35mm have a larger diameter than 25cm. Even reels on cores are slightly larger than 25cm.
There are six spaces that could apparently hold 12 1000ft/300m 35mm reels.
And that case is also supposed to be opened while "standing up" (feet at the bottom). Very strange.

Another idea: Could that case have been meant to carry around old style computer magnetic tape data storage reels? These had a diameter of 25cm. And those "grooves" on this case spacers seem to be adequately placed to hold such reels steady for transport.

That's a thought Jean-Marc [Smile]
