If you need to check your favourite machine's speed , here are some "freewares" to do the job :

J have just downloaded both but not tested yet.
Normally that's work through the sound card. I assume a LOW signal has to entered in mike port providing you get a frame top from the projector (Sensor on Main Shaft : 1 HZ = 1fps).....

Do you know of a suitable plug and cable to bring out from the Beaulieu socket Phil?

Hi Andrew,

This plug "looks like" SMB standard, without any warranty.....

An other thing is that it is possible the signal can be poluated by the big transformer proximity.

For this reason , I pick up signal to the source

I have used this small installation connected to Multimeter:

I need to do some follow up and progress work on this topic soon once I get my backlog of film work straight again.

Hopefully a project for the summer along with the two bladed Bauer shutter project!

This would work with the Elmo gs1200 too because it has a reed switch, two in fact like the beaulieu in close proximity to the main output shaft. This in conjunction with the pulse meter on the rear of the Elmo would be possibly more accurate to have the digital display from the meter. Must try this now, well done Phil for sharing this with us on the forum.

I will do Phil's mod here regarding the reed switch for reasons he states 're transformer proximity.

We need the best pulse signal possible here I feel for total reliabilty. An "amplified" pulse signal, as Phil says, is the way to go here.

Probably a new connection "out" socket will be needed also towards the front of the machine, not the rear, on top of an extremely sizeable transformer as things currently stand.

It will need Mercatac brushless slip rings to apply the voltage through to the reed switch, and to receive the amplified pulse out with the resistor in circuit, but I have these already, and they're readily available for those who also wish to perhaps modify.

This is a very "low cost" and fast solution to monitor the speed projector.

The second way, as Andrew said in a tip before, is to get a small device with LED display, simply and well embedded inside projector .
To give an idea, look at this (kit around 12 Euros) :

But.......... Many devices like this one are normaly used for "High" Fraquencies.
So, may be the reed switch will not be used anymore, and has to be replace by a coding wheel showing 100 holes (result should be 25 fps x 100 ) for better accuracy and easier reading.
The small device , as it is at this time , allow a new reading each second , which is slow perhaps...
Also , I don't know if the PIC program can be easily modified to get a measure refreshing rate below 1 sec...

Once straight with my film collection (re records & covers etc etc), my projector improvements will become my next priority Phil.

I've been truly very very lucky in the last 12 months by having ALL 3 of my projectors of choice, working 100% perfectly 100% of the time, so projector maintenance / innovation has very much taken a back seat in these recent times thankfully!! [Smile]
