Greetings. I am in need of a User Manual for the 804D projector. If anyone has a .PDF version that they could email me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I have the manuals for the S 802 and the S 807/807 D that I can scan to pdf, if that's any help.

Hello Ty:
I was directed to the Manuals section of Film-Tech and there I found a scan of the Manual for the 810D projector. I think that it is similar enough for my purposes. The 800 series projectors with the D designation are very similar. Thanks anyway.

Thanks Luigi, but I think I am OK now. I would have a hard time reading the Italian!

Barry,

I didn't know there was an 800 series twin track and I'm interested!

Does it put out two signals on the DIN output connector for an external Amp? (-or is that why you want the manual?)

I looked at the standard 800 series sound head and to me it looked like it should read both stripes and give a blended monaural. I tried it on a stereo film and only heard the main stripe anyway.

I don't know, Steve, I have not received the unit yet. The Super 8 database says the sound mode is mono and duo. It does not say stereo. I don't know if that helps you. The Manuals section here has a scan of the 810D model, but it is not referred to as a 2 track.

I think if they say "stereo", it means that the machine has two speakers inside the chassis and a two channel power amplifier(Elmo GS-1200, GS-800 for example.)

-not that a pair of speakers a foot apart really does stereo anyway, but then again these machines usually have two external speaker sockets and you can get your real stereo that way.

"Twin track" means it can read the full stereo signal(s), but what you do with it after that is up to you. As a standalone it probably can blend them into the single speaker, which is still very good for those stereo prints that just don't work right on a monaural machine.

I've seen the industry standard pinout for the DIN connector that Eumig uses for line level output, and the single track machine uses the standard chassis ground and one of the channels (the left channel, actually). I'm betting yours also uses that other (right) pin that my instruction manual never mentions.

Hi Barry. The model you have is a late production run as part of the Sonomatic style of machines hence the visible track switch on the lamp house. Its the basic model without the counter, special record features etc but a nice basic Eumig to have. [Smile]

I'm imagining what is would take to plug this beast into my mixer:

One end is a 5 pin DIN with three lines: right, left, chassis.

The other end would be two 1/4" stereo jacks with right or left on the tips, projector chassis on both rings and the sleeves connected to the cable shield(s).

-odds of finding this cable in stock are not promising!

(We all enjoy this hobby in our own way!)

Thanks for that info, Lee. I know you are very familiar with the 800 series Eumigs. The projector will arrive tomorrow. Stay tuned for more questions as the 810D manual may not address anything related to the 2 track option, such as the switch in the lamphouse. I think this model is rather uncommon.

Hi Barry, I have the Eumig 824D Sonomatic HQS. It is a great projector, and runs both Super 8 and Regular 8 with equal ease.
I had to repair the top plastic sprocket holder on my machine, as it as cracked and the sprocket was slipping on the shaft. So if your machine does not want to thread properly, check it out as it is a very common issue on the little 800 Eumig's- an easy repair, just a dab of epoxy solves the problem.
Make sure you center the dot on the inching knob a the 12 o'clock position, so as to retract the claw before removing the gate plates. Failure to do so will break off the claw. When I got my machine it was very dirty in the film path. A couple of hours doing a meticulous cleaning and polishing of the film path will pay dividends in the smooth threading and running of this machine.
The track switch on the front of the machine is labelled 1,1+2,and 2. It is not a stereo machine

Hi Paul, Thanks for that information. I will remember to set the little knob in the correct position if I need to. IIRC, my Bolex SP80 Special was made by Eumig and has the same knob and dot, but it is supposed to point to 6 o'clock rather than 12. Go figure.

I have the SP-80 Special also. It was my first sound machine and has done very well by me.

-the reason for the 90 degree difference in the dot is a mystery lost to Time, I'm afraid!

I guess Eumig decided that this was one more thing that would distinguish the Bolex badged version from the equivalent Eumig machine! For people like Barry though, who have both machines, the confusion could easily lead to a damaged claw.

Well, I received the projector today. Came in the original Styrofoam packaging. No power cord and of course, no manual. Good thing the cord socket is the same as the universal PC socket. It was set for regular 8 so I put on the S8 sprockets and plate. Thought I had an auto shredder as it jammed and ate some leader. Found out it was a little white piece that is a part of the film path between the sound head exit and the start of the larger lower sprocket. It is actually a two-piece piece. I thought the outer part had broke, but it is sort of like a little door that you can pop down to have access to the path. Works fine now. Nice zoom lens adequate for home use and although it is very similar to my Bolex SP80 Special, I think the sound is a little better. For the track switch, it has to be on "1" for the sound to work. The other options are "2" and "1+2".

Very nice looking machine Barry, looks like new! Great news that the sound is nice and loud, which means that the sound head is in good shape.
I have had that little white plastic film chute (at the rear sprocket) pop open sometimes if the film leader happens to hit it a little too hard, so I put a small piece of Scotch tape around it.

Thanks Paul. Yes, it looks as though it has had very little use. Thanks for the tip about that white chute. I assumed it was open before I loaded my film, but maybe my film popped it open. I'll put some tape on mine also.

This one hasn't been around the block too many times: for one thing I'd expect the decal on that front gate plate to have peeled off with a lot of handling and hundreds of hours of lamp heat.

-it's a great find!

Barry - Do you still need a manual for the Eumig Mark S 804D? I have the S 804D and I may be able to scan the manual and send it to you as a PDF.

Barry - A Jedi Master Film Handler, his instruction manual, has got to have! (as Yoda would say) I was able to scan the manual and will send it to you shortly.

Thanks in advance.
