It is unusual to find sponsored films on Super 8. I have just been checking some films bought in a large batch and came across a 20-minute 1981 colour film "Can You Eat It?".

It starts innocently enough with Tim Brooke-Taylor comparing the human diets to that of elephants, then goes on to talk about a fibre diet for health. A very stupid sequence shows him eating a door mat!

Then, eventually, out it comes, The word constipation. It then goes into details!

The end title is "Fybogel"

The BFI web-site says it is intended for medical audiences. Although I can't see where such an audience would have gathered to see a Super 8 film.

I used to borrow super 8mm sponsored films from Barry Wiles. They were quite a few.

Don't konow if Derann ever did them, but one advert does say they are going to open a library for sponsored films on super 8.

I have a Super 8 film on physiotherapy that seems like a training film (not in English though). Perhaps they were intended to the loop cassette systems and personal viewing by trainees pre VHS days. The sort of "when you get to this stage go off and view the film" system of training.

I have a fairly rare super 8 optical sound 400ft film (running about 23 minutes), called "Lost Hunter" from what looks like either the late 50's or early 60's. it has lost some color over the years, but it's about how to survive if lost in the wilderness, and quite interesting.
