No, this isn't about me folks (and I'm anything but quiet! [Smile] )

No, this is about the super 8 feature prints of "The Quiet Man".

Does anybody know if there were ever any low fade prints of this struck, whether Fuji, Agfa or LPP? I'd love to know.

OSI

It's funny you should ask that. I just got a feature print. It says Mylar stock and it has quite a bit of fade. If only it wasn't stored in those air-tight cases, but then I'm not sure if certain stock will fade no matter what. I would still love to find one with good color. I don't know what else this feature might have been printed on.

The good news is there are low fade prints feature lengths of The Quiet Man out there which are miles better than Techno or Powell prints. The bad news is the master material used wasn't without its faults. There is more colour to be sure but the print whilst not soft is inferior to what was being produced in mid 1990s. If you have seen a copy of Derann's Quiet Man Trailer it is in that kind of category.

Hey, that's good news to me! I'd love to find a decent color print of this, even if the pre-print material wasn't up to the "Derann" standard. [Smile]

Daniel ... is that the one that was just offered on ebay a week ago? Just curious.

The only complete print of THE QUIET MAN is the IVY print which, unfortunately, is reddish by now!!

I'm afraid you are wrong there are full length prints on low fade stock.

Osi,
yes, that's the one. I had to give it a chance and check it out. It's in fair condition and it has lost a lot of color. I paid very little.

Well then, you can always re-sell it on ebay and I remember the price, so, you should be able to get that back easily. [Smile]

Mike, could you, perchance, give some more info on who released the low fade prints of this film ... as I'm sure that I am not the only one who would like to start the official search for a low fade copy! [Smile]

Wouldn't it be neat if "The Quiet Man" turned out to be a remake of a much earlier film called "The Silent Man"? [Big Grin]

Osi

I don't feel it would be right to publish names on the Internet. Some organisers are dead but some are alive and well. It surfaced after requests /conversations for it at Blackpool and Ealing conventions sustained at least 10-12 definite sales. A negative became available through the efforts of one enterprisng individual. I know it was pre sold to collectors who had specifically expressed an interest in obtaining a print. It was priced about the £300 mark. Exact figures could never be confirmed but I have been led to believe at least 20 to 30 prints were struck for UK and sound was recorded indvidually before being passed on to buyers.

Print wasn't perfect due to printing problems and blips but negative was good and release was issued with love and care by those involved more than can be said said for some current dealings.

I think I'll hold on to it and use my color correction filter in front of the lens. I bought the print with that in mind. As people have mentioned in another thread, those gels make a faded print somewhat enjoyable, although it's not perfect Technicolor again.

Mike, thanks for the info. There were a number of prints made of numerous films "along the same lines". my guess is that whoever owns these prints will cherish them until they're "passing" and i would hope that one of those prints will "pass on' to me. I'll be waiting, to be sure. [Smile]

(unless the proud owners are only in they're 30's, in that case, me, at 50, might not live long enuf to get one!) [Smile]
