I have a pair of Elmo rewinds and they need repair or tune-up. One of them is very tight and I'd like both of them checked out. I'm not able to open them. Can anyone service these or know anyone who does? Thanks.

Daniel, i have just had a similar problem with my Elmo rewind arms, i dont know if this will make sense or not, but i'll try and explain what i did,
On the top of the arms there is a small hole and this is where there is a hexagonal headed screw,(internal), all i did was clamp the arm to a bench nice and tight, loosen this screw,(with an allen key), only loosen it, dont remove it, once loosened, hold onto the handle with one hand whilst pushing the spindle inwards as though you're trying to push it further onto the spindle, now hold onto the spindle and turn try and turn the handle whilst trying to stop the spindle turning, let it all go and if the handle now turns normally without any tightness tighten up the screw, If this doesn't work remove the screw altogether, spray a little WD40 or similar into the hole then replace the screw loosely and try the above.
As you feel the spindle slipping and moving whilst your holding onto it and turning the handle you may see what i am trying to say.
It worked for me on both of the arms.

Tom, I followed your instructions and did a lot of maneuvering. It seems to have worked. They're winding smoothly now. I hope that can be a permanent fix. Thanks again.
