I have the 4x400 Derann release of "Kronos". Kronos is a B/W sci-fi movie from the 1950s.

I noticed that two different type of Super 8 film were used for my print. My print is mounted on 2x800ft spools. I noticed that on both spools half of the Super 8 film was a different color than the other half when I held it up to the light.

The parts of the film with the best audio say "Eastman 75 safety film" along the sprocket holes near the balance strip. The parts of the film with the poor audio, its hard to read the identifying letters.

I feel like I should re-record the audio but I"m worried that bad strip may be the reason for the poor audio.

My question is does anyone else have this feature with the two different Super 8 films used and the poor audio? If so, did you try to re-record the audio?

Was it usual for Derann to release a feature using two different types of Super 8 film?
(or perhaps a previous owner swapped out some parts of the film)

I dont have the film, but do know that at some times there were problems with getting B&W stock. Perhaps your print was made when there a change of suppliers or it was a mix of B&W and colour stock due to one type running out.

As for re-recording is there enough lead in or play out film to try a test recording on? I wouldn't try without doing a test.

I think I have enough lead in on part 1 to do a test recording. I will have to try a test recording and see if the problem is with the recording or the strip.
