Hi all,
I've been collecting standard/regular 8mm sound films for about 4 years now and own just one standard 8mm sound projector (Elmo TP-8).This collection is small as you are aware these films aren't plentiful to buy - some are very over-priced but most are reasonable.
I thought I'd share my collection info and see what other forum members are like with their collections,if they actually collect them?

That looks like a very nice collection. I too collect regular 8mm films and I have tons of silent but a small but decent sound collection as well. Let me put together a list and I will post what I have. The sound films are sort of hard to find and you are right about them being expensive at times.

Hi Clinton...I love your Elmo....would like to have one of those [Smile]

This is all I have. I use a Eumig S810D to play my Reg. 8mm sound films. I've always liked the quality of standard 8 (picture and sound).

Hi Bill ... I look forward to seeing what films you have managed to collect [Smile]
Yeah Janice the Elmo is a great machine, solid build and fairly heavy.
When I played my 1st film on it the sound amazed me .... probably because it has a seperate speaker in its front cover [Smile]
You have good films in your collection too [Smile]

You actually have 5 of them! (Major Dundee and Hog Wild too, not on your list yet!) That's cool that you have some music films and I'd like to find some Woody Woodpeckers too. Also nice collection Janice...you have a great train film there, I have that title on super 8.

Bill,I see we both have Gerald McBoing Boing (color)....
I think from memory I paid maybe about 20GBP a couple of years ago,can you recall approx what you paid?
As I see it's on ebay,and has been for a long time,and they are asking GBP465 !!!!

I know it's Super 8mm but I think this seller has no idea what it's really worth?

Panayotis, your collections are always impressive. I have maybe 10 regular 8 features but only one sound that being FLOWER DRUM SONG in B&W. Do you have this one also and do you know anything about who put this one out?

Clinton, I bought my copy of GERALD MCBOING BOING from ebay in a lot of 12 films for $41 so mine only cost $3.41! Actually the entire lot was regular 8 sound so I hit the jackpot on that one. I did see that listing...that's not even the original box either it's another box with the Gerald graphics pasted on! At that price it will be "listed" forever!

Hello Clint - I can't post any pictures, but I have some 50-Std8 Shorts, silent and sound, including THE VOICE OF HOLLYWOOD (1929), INSURANCE (Cantor), many Blackhawks; LITTLE BILLY'S TRIUMPH, HOGAN OUT WEST, BEAST AT BAY, THUMB PRINTS AND DIAMONDS, THIS WAS NEW YORK 1900, A LUBIN SHOWMAN'S REEL, THE BATH DUB, amny more - Of your list, I am in want of the Mighty Hercules, should you ever want to sell/trade - Std 8 films are a rare commodity, as most of the earliest films from 35 and 16 were eventually copied to Single-8 - Cheers, Shorty

Bill,I don't remember exactly. It came from England and since it was available in various editions,(complete, shortened, color, black and white, extracts) I believe is either from the Mountain/Heritage/Portland etc mixup,or,from Derann who by that time were releasing Universal features. I love the film but did not buy it because it is not in cinemascope. This is one film that cries for and should be available in widescreen.

I have a copy of Laurel and Hardy's Their Purple moment in 8mm sound I will do a trade for a super 8 sound copy if anybody has one?

Thanks for the info. I have a flat print on 16mm of FLOWER DRUM SONG but it has gone red so when I came across the regular 8 sound version even though it was b&w I was intrigued and the price was right so I went for it.

A very nice collection there Clinton.

I am a huge fan of Standard ( Regular ) 8mm film releases.
More so than Super 8mm.
Good luck with your collecting in future. [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

Clinton,I disagree with you. Std 8 films are generally much cheaper, because very few people buy them! Of course there are exceptions,as always. Too many of my early silent one reelers I was finding, several years ago,at the BFCC for one pound at the dealers' bargain boxes. Today the price has gone up to three pounds!. Now on ebay, prices vary according to the seller's wishes.Phil has a small list of features, sound for 25 pounds and silent for 3 pounds a reel. so, you must keep looking.

Bill, Blackhawk never released a scored 8mm of PURPLE, neither in Super 8 - Interested to know more of course, I might be of a mind for it myself - Shorty

I don't collect standard 8mm sound film but I do have one. It's an advertisement for inflatable life boats that came with my Videotronic repeating projector. The color is actually very good as well as the sound.

I also have a Videotronic repeating projector Bryan Chernick with just one cartridge.
Those cartridges are nearly impossible to get eh!

I have only one Standard 8 sound, and that's "The Lively Set" by Castle Films. The seller didn't know better and assumed it was a silent reel. I'd be willing to trade it for the same film in Super-8!

Hi Janice,
I have just won a Eumig S810D for NZ$30 plus P&P and hopefully it has all the pieces to swap from Super 8mm to Standard 8mm, and if it runs great then I will have 2 projectors to run my Standard 8mm sound films on :-)

We have a number of standard 8 films and I always found the quality way ahead of super 8 until derann and Walton began improving things. With the 1.2 lens they are excellent.
