Does anyone own one of these Comet standard 8 mm projectors?
I'm wondering what size lamp it should have as in watts because the one in there gets very hot and it's bubbled a bit,
plus the round hold in the 3rd pic should have some sort of cover as you can see the lamp and when it's on it obviously shines out there too!
It's a beautiful machine and runs well but it didn't have instructions and I can't find any info on the net.
Can anyone help,cheers,Clinton in New Zealand.

Clinton, according to Amateur Cine World directory of 8mm projectors issue July 1958, the Comet projector was manufactured by Cirse in Turin Italy.
The lamp is a 500 watt mains voltage, biplane filament and prefocus base, so the machine must put out a lot of heat. Probably a candidate for conversion to low voltage halogen lamps.
There should be a spherical reflector mirror that fits in that hole at the back of the lamp house.
This machine looks very much like a copy of the superb Bell & Howell Regent or 606h projector.
Cirse also made a magnetic sound version of the Comet known as the Comet 8 magnetic, which used an 8v 50watt lamp, and later evolved into the flagship Cirsesound projector:

I've just given the projector a clean and noticed the powercord has the name "cirse" printed on the plug.
So that answers a few questions [Smile]
