Hi, i know the usual problem with the eumig 800 series is they run slow but my 807 seems to be running slightly to fast ie voices on sound films are slightly to high pitched.Is there any way to slow it down a bit ?.

Slow down the mechanism.

1) Motor running
2) Main switch at STOP
3) Slide the 24-18 knob to a slightly lower position

This should slow down the drive.

Right, i didn't realize.I thought they only ran at the 18 or the 24 setting and not inbetween.

Also, check the 50hz/60hz frequency setting.

The Motor in the Eumig runs at a constant speed. The speed of the actual drive varies by means of the sliding movement of the drive pulley wheel onto the large black disc/s which drive the mechanism.
Therefore, the film running speed is variable between 24 and 18 fps.
As Joseph said, you can check that the 50/60 Hz flag is set correctly, although if it is set to 60Hz on our 50Hz mains I think that would make the motor run considerably slower and not faster.

NEVER move the speed knob when the projector is in forward, reverse, or rewind, you will damage the rubber discs.
Maurice, does that flag actually do anything? It seems to just sit there, not connected to anything at all.

I wonder that too, Paul, although I have never really examined it.
When I buy such a Eumig I always take off the back and if the flag shows 50 horizontally I just replace the back!

The 50/60 flag changes the upper and lower limits of the speed slider.

Thanks to the reply from Joseph which obviously shows that the motor keeps the same speed whether on a 50Hz or 60Hz supply.

Actually the reason the lower and upper limits are changed is because the motor speed is following the line frequency. This way the extremes of your FPS adjustment are still roughly 18-24 FPS at either line frequency.

Otherwise:

-a 50 Hz set machine wouldn't be able to reach 18FPS on a 60 Hz line.

-a 60 Hz set machine wouldn't be able to reach 24FPS on a 50 Hz line.

We've had a lot of things said here over the years that are a lot more apology worthy than that!

As I understand it, the frequency setting on these makes different ranges of the drive disk available so you have a different range of (umm..) "gear ratios" to match the motor speeds to the desired shaft speeds for the two FPSs.

I think it's a wonderfully simple system. Today you couldn't do something like this without spending a couple of weeks coding.

Yes, it has it's troubles this far down the road. -still doing better than my left knee!

I did 217,000 miles with a five speed manual. Now I find myself manual shifting my Civic even with the automatic. (It would be a hoot with a stick!)

I know CVT is a great thing, but it might be a bridge too far for me!

I have mixed feelings about CVT Steve. On my Accord the CVT is absolutely flawless with no feeling at all that anything is going on, unless you watch the tachometer. In fact I have read in motor trade journals that Honda have the best CVT on the market. And it saves on gas.
On the other hand I sometimes miss the change surges you get with a traditional automatic transmission, and nothing beats a manual transmission if you really want to get a driving experience.
I just home my Honda CVT does not start slipping like the Eumig CVT! [Big Grin]

OK, off topic....(apologies.)

The transmission of the future is electric propulsion, whether full electric or hybrid.

-smooth as silk and the engine (-if any) operating at the exact right speed for power or efficiency.

The Ferraris and Maseratis of the world are in kind of a bind right now. You can go faster with a generator, a battery and four motors on the wheels, but the driver experience is better with that third pedal and a stick shift. (What'll it be?)

My Mustang GT could smoke the tires going into first, and second a little too.

-kind of barbaric propulsion, but we should be young at some time in our lives!

My own Eumig 800 series hasn't slipped once in 14 years. I hope it never does.
