A reel of splice tape would be ideal Jim like the CIRO tape that comes with Osi's splicer.

Try paper tape.... that's what I use to hold the film down on the reels/spools and it leaves no residue.

I must admit, many of the films i receive from others here are only stuck down with a strip of ordinary masking tape.
They usually stick one end to the film itself and the other end of the two inch thin piece of tape to the actual inside face of the spool.

To me, it does seem to leave something of a gum like sticky residue behind but this doesnt bother me as i always trim back the first inch of leader to place a dovetail cut onto my films before projecting any of them.

For my own storage purposes, i always use 8mm plastic clips then afterwards.
