I have just bought a pile of films which includes a standard 8 film. It appears to be sound with the soundstripe on the outer edge of the film next to the sprockets.

Can someone just confirm that this is correct, please? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Panayotis. It is a long time since I handled standard 8mm. Will need to get out the old projector to view it.

Yep, standard 8mm sound films! I have often wondered if perhaps, the audio on standard 8mm tended to actually be better than most super 8. The reason being that, as a general rule, a standard 8mm sound stripe at least appears to be larger or wider in nature.

OK, that may be silly logic, but I wonder if it's true? [Smile]

sometimes the brown stripe could be blank, calling for a recording - Once it's run thru a Eumig 810, you'll find out - Std 8 sound was 'boomier' because those prints were struck from top 16mm originals, most of the time - Shorty

Maybe 8 mm prints were struck from top notch 16 mm print masters but fact is being close to the sprocket, the soundstripe can be less smooth than desirable as often happens with the balance track on S/8.

I have Standard 8mm sound films that I run on my Elmo Standard 8mm sound projector. My projector has a separate speaker that is house in the side cover.
The sound is very good with good bass and treble [Smile]

And of course the 56 frames sound track advance on standard 8, versus the 18 frames advance on super 8, means that there is much better smoothing of the film motion at the standard 8 sound head.
