Hi all
Possibly available to me Chinon 2000GL Dual Gauge Cine Projector.

This machine has a Fast Slow dial, does this mean it has variable speed. I would guess yes, but being rather new to projectors, I would not be surprised either way.

And then there is the Dual Gauge? What does this mean?

So, when I ask, any good, I mean it would be used in a telecines way especially as in the variable speed may help.

Hi Mark and Welcome to the Forum! The Chinon 2000 is a dual guage which is able to run both 8mm and Super 8mm film formats.
The speed can be adjusted by the variable speed rheostat control knob. A variable speed projector is necessary if you are using it to transfer films to digital. It will help sync up the different recording speeds between the film and the camera and reduce or eliminate any flicker or banding.

The Chinon 2000GL is a low-end projector, but if it has been maintained well can do a decent realtime transfer. However...it uses a CXR bulb which can be expensive to replace.

I thought after I'd posted that it must 8MM & Super 8, but good to be confirmed.

I think it may be worth the punt for the price as my other projectors are not variable speed.

Mark, the bulb for these doesn't come cheap and can sometimes be nearly as much as the cost of the projector. A better choice would be a projector using the far cheaper EFP bulb such as the excellent Sankyo Dualux 2000-H. This is a link to one UK supplier of bulbs for the Chinon 2000GL

Hey Will, that is expensive, the projector is available for £45, so maybe it would become rather expensive, since Janice states it is a low end model.

I found Sankyo 2000-H and it doesn't look like it variable speed?

There are also some incredibly priced Sankyo's on ebay.

I think since there are two warnings about this I will leave it. Especially as I haven't even tried my existing three projectors yet.

Indeed it is, I just cannot see from the pics the controller.

Looking at Sankyo, the 800 looks rather impressive, there's a very expensive one on ebay that seems to do everything.

But alas, I will wait and see what my first attempts at telecine result in before I get carried away.

The reason the Chinon popped up was because it was local and I'd been reading a lot about the need for variable speed.

One step at a time I think.
