Hello all, Tonight i am doing a scratch test on my spare Elmo ST1200HD, this one has had a fair amount of work both by me and professionally, however, like any normal collector i want to gain the trust of my machine.
So, i am running a scratch test using a loop of clear tail film, i have no idea how many times its gone around but so far on 24 fps its running for half an hour.
No marks what so ever,
Would i be correct in saying this is how you do a simple scratch test? I have never done this before, but i have fitted a new second sprocket guide and always push in that rear green guide that takes the film up to the 800ft spool, these, i am well informed, can also cause scratching.
I still have some work to do on this one, by the time im finished i think it will be almost new [Wink]

Tom,
will clear film show up green emulsion scratches?
years ago,i had pairs of green dot scratches from both my st1200d"s. this was I think from the loop under the gate, because the marks were dots, not continuous lines.
that's when I lost confidence in the elmo, and don't use them now.
I miss the st1200"s a lot. in every other way I loved them, but after about a third of my films were damaged in the way described,i just cant trust them.

Dave, sorry to hear that, i must admit i have struck lucky with my HDs and my main one has had lots of TLC with many new parts including a film gate aperture, i will do another test tomorrow using a loop of spare film we have thats pretty much scrap, duplicate footage, now you mention the emulsion scratch thats what i am looking for. i'm not expecting it to make marks but i just like to be certain. Thanks for the feedback there.
