Hi All
I have three ELMO GS1200's, I love these projectors. But one runs perfcet;y but the other two have faults.
Elmo 1: Take up reel not working (motor???)
Elmo 2: Plays but may suddenly power off, slow running, I have to use the pan pot to speed up the motor, rewind mostly slow and may just stop.

HELP!

Thank you
Mark

Hello Mark

The take up motor problem will likely be caused by split gears, the motor relay (contacts pitted - can be cleaned but best replaced) or the motor itself.

Regarding your other GS that switches off and has weak motor drives, have you checked the power lead as I had one doing exactly this years ago and the neutral wire screw was loose in its mains plug - easy to check and also worth looking at on any electrical equipment you have.

I wasn't aware John White was an Elmo man I thought he was mainly Eumig and more of a mechanical technician than an electronics one - please let us know if he can repair Elmos too.

Kevin

It seems that John White may, at the moment , be the only person who can handle the repair of a Super 8 projector.
Tell us how you get on, Mark.

Dave Locke used to service/repair GS1200's and can still be seen at various film fairs like the BFCC. I'm not sure if he still does offer this service but it might be worth contacting him.

Mark. The take-up motor problem can also be caused by dirty contacts on a Relay on the main pcb. I have this on one GS and I proved it by very carefully touching the side of the relay with a screwdriver and the take-up started again. This Relay just needs removing and cleaning if you cant find a new one (assuming of course the Relay is at fault).

Dave Locke, many years ago, had my ST-1200 and eventually returned it saying he could find nothing wrong, even if the optical sound blared out but the magnetic was very low.

A professional replaced the faulty magnetic head. It now works a treat, and has done for quite a long time now.

You may read into this reply as you think fits.
