I have a Mk S Eumig and need to make sure the amplifier is working.

I do not have a film with sound on!

Is there any way I can test it? I do have the microphone.

thanks

Colin

On the odd chance you have a tape head demagnetizer around, they do a pretty respectable job. You just need to approach the head gradually or risk scaring the rest of your household!

Turn on the amplifier by turning the volume control knob past its click position.
Wait for about 1-2 minutes for the amp to warm up (its a valve amp).
Turn up volume control and you should hear a welcoming hum!

Steve, I havn't got a demagnetiser unfortunately!

Maurice, yes I am getting a hum! Is there any way of putting an input source into the amp so I can hear it through the speaker?

Colin

I don't think so.
The mic is used for recording, not for P.A. work.
It's designed this way, otherwise you would have mic feedback from the speaker when recording.
You may find the manual helpful from Oldtimer Cameras.

Only other way is to buy the cheapest sound film from one of the three dealers, wont be more than few quid. [Wink]

A good suggestion from Tom.
Barry at Independent 8 has a great many standard 8 sound films for sale. I'm sure he can help you.

Hi Colin, Have a look at my sales list. Some of the films may have gone pink but the sound is good andf they are going very cheap compared to some dealer prices or E bay. Ken Finch [Razz]

I should point out that Ken's films are Super 8. Colin's projector is standard 8.

Thanks Maurice, I thought it was a dual gauge machine like my 810D.
