Was the Disney featurette Once Upon A Mouse ever included in a DVD or Blu Ray? I would love to re-record the superb Derann 600 footer of this film.

Hi Paul,
My research indicates that "Once Upon A Mouse" has never been released to the home market in the USA, but was issued in Japan in both VHS and LaserDisc versions. The film originally accompanied "The Fox and the Hound" in theatres in 1981.

Leon, my print is 1 x 600ft. Can't remember if I bought it new or not, so maybe it originally came on two 400ft reels, although I cannot detect any splices in my print.

I bought a copy of this last year and returned it because it was a dupe with inferior image and sound quality. What an odd thing! Initially, I was hoping to find a stereo source and re-record, but decided it wasn't worth the considerable trouble.

IF you could get ahold of a Japanese laserdisc and get a digital dub off of it, you'd have a first-rate Dolby Surround "master track." Who knows if it was issued in the digital sound era? Or how hard it would be to locate a copy?

"Once Upon a Mouse" was issued in 1981 at 28 minutes.
I have a 16mm copy on Kodak SP.

Wasn't there a another company that released this film?

Derann's listing of 2007 gave a price of £89 for the 600ft issue on Super 8.

I have that Derann catalog! But I was told another company put it out? Is that true!

I have a DVD of Once Upon a Mouse but it has not been released officially. It does feature on a Disney video release. Once upon a Mouse and other mouse time stories in 1981.

There's no question Derann put it out - Leon is right - but someone else did as well, possibly stooping so low as to strike a negative directly from a Derann print. The one I returned looked THAT bad.

There were some terrible dupey pirate prints around long before Derann made the official release in the 90's.

The Derann version was always 1 x 600ft and the prints are stunning.

I agree Rob, one of the best prints Derann ever put out.
