So I just came to the realization - you can print 3D parts for your projector/etc. needs!

I had been looking for a take-up reel for my projector, had dumped some money buying reels that didn't fit (because I'm a newbie, and don't know what I'm looking for,) and then realized I might be able to 3D print a piece!

I looked online for a free pattern, then had my roommate print out a reel for me. It fit perfectly!

Here's the link I found, which has a bunch of different sizes of reels.

If you don't have a printer, I know there are libraries out there that have 3D printers, and maker spaces as well. The material isn't that expensive. Or ask around to see if someone has one!

Here's my projector with its new reel:

Thanks to everyone in this forum who reached out to help me find what I was looking for. [Smile]

That's very enterprising, and a nice, unusual colour too! It's outrageous that in the UK, there are ebay sellers that will ask around £10 for an old reel of that size, so I'd be delighted if 3D printed ones can be produced for less.

A Kodak Purple-ie [Smile]

Sarah, you may like to peruse Van eck's website to see what he makes using 3D printing as well. Neat stuff!
We have watched the creation and sampling of different techniques here for a few years now, and edwin has quite a number of pieces for different projectors now available to be ordered.
Kodak: Brownie 500

It doesn't look like he sells 3D printed reels that i can see, but rather ones make partially with recycled plastic:
Reels: plastic

which makes me think that if one were to do this in bulk, it is cheaper to press new plastic reels. However, for the odd one-off, GREAT!
I have order several 3D printed pieces from edwin and have customizes a few things on my elmos. All this new technology is so helpful!
