Hello from Madrid. This series were a hit in Spain. Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente showed all spanish audiences our cinegetic treasure. Spanish society was schocked when he died while filming an episode. Thousands of kids choose biology as their hobby or studies, as many others decided to rock in the 60īs because of the Beatles, all over the world.
There was the times of Super 8, and it was released it for the home market. If you want to save money, try to look for a complete collection. I have seen loose chapters, but for a high price. Be patient and keep triyng. I have seen big sets for the price of a few spools.

So it seems that Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente is similar to Steve Irwin in Australia who has influenced many young Australians about animal and environment. He also died during filming one of his episode after being fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray barb in Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

Steve Irwin in wikipedia:

Yes, he was very big in Spain. He died in a plane crash in 1980.

I have some episodes of this series already, just looking for some more.

He is more like David Attenborough (the British TV naturalist), than the clown Steve Irwin. Attenborough and De La Fuente's programmes are about the animals. Steve Irwin shows are about Steve Irwin.

Yes, he is still remembered by a generation (a sad song from a duo became popular for kids), and the music is one of classic spanish tv scores. It is known that many of the scenes filmed were not live footage (actually were a set) but this way, he demonstrated to have a great talent as a filmmaker.
I know this is a film forum, but if you like spanish animals, the spanish public television (TVE), released a series a few years ago, conducted by prince Felipe. You can buy it on DVD. I donīt remember the name, but it is easy to found, just look for our prince photo in the box set with a super 16 camera.

It is a bit Out of Topic now... what do you think with today's National Geographic or Discovery Channel, are they also being set or live footage.

If it is a live footage, I wonder how many film stocks they spend to get a Lion cathing a Deer (for example). Especially knowing some of their films were shot on 16mm (not Video).

Yes, I know they are tricky, and all the night life takes, insects, etc, are over a table, just like Aardmanīs characters. But I mean that those were so "real" that audieces believed they were watching nature from their living rooms sofas. Thatīs why he got it, because he showed things difficult to see even for an expert. Nowadays, we use to follow the masters recipes.
