Good morning everyone.

I have a Marketing Films full length Saturday Night Fever on Super 8. All 7 reels. Weirdly though, the original owner has put them all on three 12' reels (however, they do have the "4000-1, 4000-2, etc leaders slugged on the front, so I know it's from the full length edition).

And for some reason, the last reel has 400 feet of The Deadly Trap starring Faye Dunaway. I guess they were consolidating.

I've been asked by the current owner to find a buyer for these, but I'm not sure of its value. I do not have any of the original packaging since I assume that they came on 7 400' reels, but since they have been edited to larger reels, they would no longer fit the Marketing boxes. I do have the square literature that came with it. I have examined the front ends of all the reels and the films look to be in good used condition. I've shot Super 8 film since the 80s, so I'm very aware of how a print would look if it was damaged. This is not pristine, but has no damaged wear and tear. I have pics as well if anyone is interested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. One pic posted below.

You really would need to put screen shots on the forum of this or any other Marketing release nowadays as they now tend to have varying degrees of fading to the prints.

Screen shots from the film itself in run would determine more accurately what you could expect to be able to sell this film for nowadays. It is still quite a nostalgic desirable title for some, but it really does depend on condition of the film in terms of scratches and wear to the print as well as to how well the colour still exists on these type of prints on this type of film stock.

I have the 3x400ft version of this film and the colour isn't too bad on it, but as there are plenty of dark scenes in this movie, the general backdrop does tend to have a reddish hue nowadays.

In complete contradiction to what I have just said, the illuminated multicoloured dancefloor scenes look perfect still with all colour shades present and vibrant.

Thanks! That helps. I'll have to work out how to get a screenshot. I'll see if where I work can do a telecine of a few frames for me.

I have a Super 8 - but not with sound. And honestly, I'd rather have it handled professionally.

And the seller deals with MASSIVE estate sales in Hollywood, so he came to me to help him find buyers for these few films. He normally deals in much bigger ticket items and doesn't have time to test all these prints. I have no idea if he has any working projectors, but his business isn't selling films. I wish I could show you some of the stuff he has though from the estates. Wild.

Fair enough Patrick but your silent machine would do just fine for you to get some accurate screen shots of SNF assuming you have the reel capacity or other reels to screen it with?

That film runs anywhere from $75 to around $150. The $150 is for a print that isn't too faded with lots of color left in the day scenes. My print is faded a little bit but dark scenes are lightly brownish. The ones that sell for $75 are the ones that are pink of which there are a LOT of around. I had 2 prints until I found the semi-decent print which I have now.

I would love the full feature in the condition you describe one day. That and Jaws, but again..really difficult to find a decent print that hasn't been run to death.

I have this feature from marketing, but i thought it had turned beetroot to be honest, perhaps I've been a bit harsh with my summing up of colour left in this feature, unfortunately the US climate is not very favourable if not stored properly, pity really as this one was still in the original box, and did not look like it had been run through any projector. I wish derann had done a low fade copy of this feature, that would have been in my collection for sure.

Hi Patrick, I think it was about $100 - $110.00 something like that, plus p/p to the UK. The box was nothing special anyway, nothing like what derann offered for there features, good luck with your sale.

I actually think that so long as the print is not full of emulsion scratches and it still has at least fairly good colour in the manner I described my own print of this, then $100 - $150 for what is after all, a fairly long film, is a very fair price and one I would be happy to pay if I was in the market for one of these.
