Just bought this Super 8 projector. Not the most sophisticated machine but works well surprisingly and would like to get hold of a copy of the instruction manual. A scanned copy would be welcome. Anyone?

My first projector was a Royal Gioca bought new from Mailmaster. It is a basic sound projector no recording facilities or whatever but it will project sound film. I would check it out with a loop of leader to check it isn't scratching film and is clean of any dirt or grime. It can be temperamental when threading second hand films. with splices and can concertina film easily and isn't as easy as say other film projectors to extract from film path.

That said it does what it says on the tin and apart from the occasionally threading wrongly which is more to do with other collectors have done with second hand films more than projector.

In regard to an instruction manual from memory it was pretty basic and multi language with more images than script.

Anyway enjoy

Mike

I remember that Derann would not hire you a print if you were
to use this machine. [Smile]

David I didn't know Derann then. I had to work my way through all the rest 😜
Yes I remember somebody telling me that later. Could have been worse Cinerex were thrashing machines.

Don't put any decent prints through this! This is the machine I had brand new in about 1978 and it scratched every print I had. Something about the film path above the gate is a poor design. The sound is also very harsh. I would recommend all Gioca machines be binned. Can't stress it enough.

This is the machine I had. Also Gian Luca Loncrini, our esteemed member had a similar experience.

I too remember these were well known to scratch film badly.

It didn't scratch as bad as the Cinerex. Anything the Royal missed it was sure to more than to cover. I still have Perry's version of Santorini as my test film. How many times has that donkey climbed that hill. I keep Victoria's funeral service from 1901 as a spare. Obviously, it is silent but it has the attraction of seeing Ian in short trousers in the crowd.

I don't think my Royal was too bad. I still managed to sell it on to another collector for half the price I paid. In terms of sound in wasn't Dolby but it was loud.

They are a very basic sound projector-no still frame-no reverse projection and you have to change the drive belt on the motor pulley for 18fps.
As for auto thread I have had no problem and the gate pressure plate is removeable for cleaning. No scratching of film yet but I wouldn't trust it with a good print. Very cheap plasticky build but rock steady picture and acceptable sound but hardly one for the serious collectors - but I got it for pennies.
