I know there out there they maybe rare, if so I'll use 16mm cores for now.

You are better to break it down on 400 ft reels most collectors are not experienced in dealing with cores.

No offense, of course.

@Rob [Big Grin]

I think Chips statement is partially true.

I've used cores very frequently in 35mm and 16mm, as have most collectors of those gauges. However, it seems that in 8mm collecting, cores are very rare and collectors of that particular gauge do not have much experience.

Jim, unless you possess an 8mm split reel, you would probably have difficulty with cores. As Chip suggested, perhaps just some smaller reels.

Regarding the use of cores in general, on 8mm, I would be a bit worried about handling anything larger than 50ft or so on cores. The gauge is too narrow and, even when tightly wound, may be asking for trouble. But, that's just my perception. I may be wrong. Perhaps the lightness of the gauge would compensate for this?

Doug, as this is in the film sales section, sorry if this post is getting off-topic.

I don't think I've ever seen a super 8 split reel...

I have a split reel for 8 mm from Goldberg Brothers and it works fine it is 16 mm shaft based it is not super 8 half inch round. I can handle working with it but I would prefer to get all films on reels. Dealing with small film gauge on cores is very risky One simple mistake could cause a really big disaster on print handling.

And it can get worse because some collectors who use cores don’t have enough To go around And it’s even harder working with the film when it’s not on a core to begin with!

You need the proper equipment As well as the experience to work with Super 8 millimeter on cores.
