how does this rate against an ST1200HD or a GS1200?

Well they are nice and quiet and nice to use but unloading the film part way through is more awkward than the elmos.
Also if your going to use it a lot you really need to source another and spare soundhead as they can wear quite quickly, certainly a lot faster than the elmos.
Very nice sound quality. They are have more of a platickiness to them than the elmos but at the right price a good machine.
They don`t seem to suffer from the speed woes of the earlier Eumigs.
Best Mark.

Reel capacity is a limiting factor on those eumigs. There are those who swear by them more as recording devices than as machines to present films.

How right you are Gary and Mike! The 938/940 has the best sound recording and playback quality I have ever heard on super 8, better in my opinion than the GS1200. Plus the film steadiness on this machine is something to behold. And of course it runs beautifully smooth and quiet. Fit an f1.0 lens on this machine, and you really have a top performing machine. It does not have the tank like construction of the GS, but it is still a very solid machine, and the use of thermoplastic covers makes the machine very quiet, and about half the weight of a GS. An ideal projector for the home show.
