That's always puzzled me too. I can imagine them being very expensive back in the day but these days I cannot understand why anybody would pay so much for a Super 8 projector.
But....I know little about Super 8, so I always figured it was just me.

Dare I say it? They are the Rolls Royce of projector or at least this is what most of the reviews said at the time. Yes they do have their bad habits from time to time but they are an incredibly versatile machine. They have one of the best light outputs and of course the stereo sound along with optical as std. They have a lot of sound facilities built in including the ESS system for pulse sync. Really the list goes on and before you say it yes as I said earlier they can be temperamental but they are built to last, as are most Elmos. With their precision metal gate and 1200ft capacity along with remote control they are one hell of a machine especially when you try to lift one [Big Grin]

Well, I can't speak for the rest of the Elmo fanboys here on the forum, but I always found other super 8 machines to be somewhat fiddly to a greater or lesser extent.

For me the Elmo GS 1200 is the super 8 equivalent of a 16mm machine, built like a tank (and certainly weighing as much as one)with easy acces to the filmpath, scope bracket fitting elegantly, great sound quality both in magnetic and in optical and most importantly: great light output. I think it's the light output that puts this machine in a category of its own.

As for the price ? I guess it is worth whatever one wants to pay for it. [Big Grin]

Well, I sadly don't own a GS 1200, but I do have it's second cousin twice removed; the ST 180M, and I must say that Elmo is a class of it's own.

My neighbour however, owns a GS1200, and I've gotten the pleasure of trying it, and it is truly a fantastic machine.

Just to add fuel to the conversation whats the difference between The gs and a Super 8 projector from Fumeo for around £2,500, apart from the price and the fact that I think thoses are new and does anyone own one?

They do indeed look great and if I were a Super 8 collector the GS is the projector I would want to have.
It's just that in this day and age, while virtually every other projector in the 8mm and 16mm collecting world, with the possible exception of Xenon machines, can be had at very affordable prices, the GS1200 has remained very unaffordable.

I have a Fumeo 9139 'Xenon' (Marc 300) M/O bought brand new and still going strong. I recently (last year) added a 9335 (also Marc 300) 16mm (Opt) with reel arms for 6000ft reels - scares me when it rewinds like a bat out of hell!

Yes Michael they have held their price very well. I suppose its a case of supply and demand. There are always buyers out there for the Elmos so they still fetch a good price. Just watch the bidding on any GS which turns up on eBay and you will notice that its not just one bidder but often a number of bidders after a well respected professional machine.

Now how much would my Xenon with a 1.0 lens and 2 blade shutter fetch [Wink]

lets not forget the beaulieu 708el i have the twintrack model with xenovaron 1.1 11to30zoom lens 2200 spool capacity never goes out of focus mine has been a workhorse for years never had to replace any parts only lamp weight is 12.6kg-27lbs 12oz i would say it is better than stereo model easy to get to every part and spares still available at a cost of course.J.E.(eddie)
