Still looking for a scope lens, looking to pay around £80.

Is it exclusively for Super 8mm Stuart?

Posted by Stuart Reid (Member # 1460) on May 12, 2016, 03:53 PM:

It is, yes.

I got a lens when getting back into the hobby from Barry at Independant 8.

It is one that was specifically marketed for Super 8mm projectors.
There was one sold on e bay last week, if i can find it I will post the link here.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272233022416?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageNam e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It's ok, but since then, i have managed to find better ones like Proskar and Kowa lenses, so it's really just taking up cupboard space to be honest.

Could well be interested if the price is right Andrew.

Well it wouldn't be what I paid for it Stuart! ha ha.
(meaning less..not more, of course!)

Let me post a photo or two sometime later, and then make me an offer if you're still interested.

It has the styrene box but if memory serves me correctly, the outer box was taped over by it's previous owner for some unbeknown reason to me???

It's a decent enough lens...just not a Kowa 8-Z you understand.

Then again, you won't get a Kowa 8-Z for this kind of money if it's any use.

Sounds great, only dipping my toe in the water to see if I'm going to bother with scope... To think I sold a pair of Proskars 6 years ago for next to nothing. Of course that was before the craze for using them with DSLRs which seem to have hiked the prices way up.

That's a real shame there Stuart and as you quite rightly point out, DSLR cameras have given scope lenses a new lease of life!

I quiver with fear each time I look to my prefered choice of an 2x Isco Anamorphot. Not much change from a few grand, that's for sure!

Its the same lens I bought from derann before they closed, for a £5.00. Its well suited to the beaulieu lens ,not tried it with the elmo, but should be good to go.

This is my lens also, have to say its served its purpose very well, my Brother has the larger Kowa but i use this one with my Elmo with a bracket i bought many years ago from Paul. A great little lens which does exactly as it says on the tin. Scope opens up your vision on the super 8 screen and you will want more. [Wink]

It serves it's purpose Tom, no doubting that.

Cannot wait for that Kowa 8-Z adaptor though for the Beaulieu.
It may well be the first time I've ever been truly 100% behind scope as an image of true quality on the Super 8mm gauge with any luck!

So far at least, at the projection sizes we project our Super 8mm films on in the home, for myself personally, I've just yet to be convinced that scope adds anything insurmountable on the gauge from my own point of view.

Maybe the Kowa / Beaulieu combo will convince me otherwise?
