As I've said recently we're soon moving, this means I've started turning out my film shed, and I've come across a Braun 8mm box, it's in lovely condition, but I'm not sure what it does. The lead is a 2 pin design, just like an electric shaver.

On the back it's stated it's a viasacustic steuergerat , there's a small switch labeled bild/impuls 1/1 4/1 on the front of the unit there are 2 imputs labeled impulskabel , next to that are 2 red lights either side of a green light with a - and + symbol. Then comes a button labeled speicher reset , next to thatis another button labeled impulse next to that another button labeled manual next along is pot that revolves from o to +, then a switch labeled projektor + and - , then tere's a plastic window with a row of small ligths, then another button labeled zahler reset and finally another button labeled bilder impulse .

I believe this must be an extra add on to the Braun Visacustic projector, but I'm only guessing this is some form of pulse sync unit, basically by what's been labeled, if anyn=one knows for sure please let me know, as it's for sale, but I have no idea how rare this unit is, and how to price it, of course it will have to be sold as seen, as I cannot guarantee it actually works, but cosmetically it's in lovely condition. I look forward to hearing from you knowladgable collectors.

Barry

You may recall you sold me a Braun Visacustic 1000 stereo in May 2008. I have therefore consulted its handbook. It appears to be the Visacustic Control Unit, part number 7 954 900. It connects the projector to a tape recorder for sound recording and reproduction by the impulse sound system.

"The impulses act so to speak as an electrical perforation of the tape and can be set and reproduced at an impulse/frame ratio of 1:1 or 1:4.
Hereby it is possible to replay synchronised sound records of the SEPMAG sound film cameras Nizo professional, Nizo 801, 561, 481, etc.
The Visacustic Control Unit can transfer synchronised recordings from a tape to one or both magnetic tracks of the film."

That's the translation as printed. It appears that in addition to the unit a user would have to have used a Nizo camera and also used a tape recorder.

Perhaps Lee might know about this unit.

I assume those cameras sent pulses to the tape recorder when shooting.

Thanks Maurice, that's more info than I had, I'm still not sure if anyone could use it today!

But we'll see, I suppose!

Brian
Yes. "Synchronised pulse for external sound recorder."
The Nizo cameras were much sought after and at a huge price.

The Braun Visacustic Steuergeraet is an amazing unit every Visacustic projector owner should have.
Many of its great features are almost unknown to most collectors.
In the past, it was intended to be connected to a tape recorder for lip sync projection, as already well described by Maurice.
But nowadays it can be used to drive, by crystal quartz, the Braun Visacustic projector at high precision speed, useful for film re-recording.
I built a sync box for this unit it can be simply connected to the Visacustic Control Unit through the front DIN socket.
The Visacustic Control Unit main features are the two independent built in digital counters.
One for the projected frames and the other for the pulses coming from the external unit ( tape recorder or sync box).
During the projection, comparing both counters, the unit is able to drive the projector motor in perfect sync with the incoming pulses.
Above all at projection start it automatically syncs at the frame chosen as starting point.

If you want to verify its unique sync characteristics you could scroll down my FB page.
I charged there several videos where I am experimenting a real "3D" Super8 projection with two Visacustic projectors in sync by the Control Unit and my sync box.

Renzo,

That's the unit I've got, it looks really interesting, perhaps there's a Visacustic user willing to make me an offer.
