A few months back I purchased a 400 foot Super 8 copy of the Harold Lloyd film "Haunted Spooks" (1920). I was a bit hesitant since it was a Collector's Club release but still wanted to have a copy of this again in my collection, so I took the chance anyway.

But to my surprise this title was actually quite sharp with almost perfect contrast. Many years ago I had the same title from Blackhawk on standard 8mm that was not very sharp and quite dark looking, especially the night scenes of which there are plenty in this film. Perhaps the Blackhawk Super 8 version was much better than their 8mm version had been but I do not know this since I never had it. The only thing I noticed with this film was that it had been printed in one continuous run with the reel changes and leaders still in place but with no splice! Naturally I cut this out and put a single splice in so this would not show on screen. A few of the intertitles seem to not be as bright as they should be but clearly readable nonetheless. The picture quality is quite good and remains the best print I have seen of this title.
