Adam, no rush but I heard you got a cop of the German lab print recently? Would love a review of this!

Quality is great. A must have for Star Wars fans. I had the sound re-recorded by Lance and it is awesome. It is late I can post more later.

Here are some screen shots. Not much point in writing up a review because they would say the same things thats already been said. So here is a link to a good review that says it all.

I bought that same German print and I was absolutely astounded at just how sharp and excellent the color quality is on this release. It really is a pleasure to screen!

Thanks! Just one question, there are no German subtitles burned in right? I notice it has the German titles at the beginning.

Looking very nice. This is the print that Osborne still can deliver? Is it the 1980 version or Special Edition 96/97 version?

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on August 21, 2013, 04:50 PM:

1980 version. More pics...

Okay, now I really want this [Smile]
Is it available direct from Germany? I would actually prefer it with German audio.

How does the grain and colour and overall quality compare to the Derran Star Wars print for example?

Posted by Ernie Zahn (Member # 274) on August 22, 2013, 08:10 AM:

It's certainly available through The Reel Image. For Europe though, perhaps CHC?

Posted by Vidar Olavesen (Member # 3354) on August 22, 2013, 08:41 AM:

I do believe Steve Osborne was a bit cheaper than CHC when I ordered Raiders of the Lost Ark. I asked about this and Empire at that time. And whomever did the re-recording, did a nice job.

Hmmm ... Maybe I need to get this on my list of to buys, even if I do get an Empire in bigger format, as that's the SE and I do love the old ones the most

Magnificent screenshots! Is there anyway that you can e-mail me those screenshots?

Email Sent, Osi!

WOW! That was quick Adam! Muchas Gracias!

One of the things that I was very impressed with was the color and image quality in the asteroid sequence. I remember on the digest that the print they used was already a little off color, (giving the whole sequence a brownish quality), they did correct this some on the later last run that was LPP, but it just looks smashing on this print!! AND, in scope!!!

Could someone email me some larger images? I'm trying to convince myself and need some help [Smile]

Pete, write Adam an e-mail or PM. Perhaps he'll help you out.

Adam - I wondered if this is acetate or polyester? If it's acetate, I'm very impressed that they have managed such nice bright reds, as well as the other strong colours.

It is acetate. Adam sent me the pics and details. Thanks again!

Today I watched first time the full lenght Empire strikes back german release.
The screening was in a very nice home theater of a friend, he run it on two Elmo GS1200 with two blade shutter, 250W bulb with 1.0 lens and the sound came synchronic from a special tape. It was Dolby Stereo.
What a great sound, much better than direct from the sound stripes of a print.
I would say the print quality is good like the Derann print of Star Wars with only exception that the used master was not perfect, because one reel or maybe two reels must be faded (at the end, but before the fight between Luke and Darth Vader), but the rest of the feature has great color.
I had in the past a 16mm flat original LPP print and still I own a 35mm print and this is on Fuji stock. I noticed that the color is a little bit different between the 16mm LPP and the 35mm Fuji prints. The color of a LPP print looks more cold at the Hoth scenes. More blue, but not a blue like a bad S8 print, it is a nice blue. My 35mm Fuji print has still very good color, but the Hoth scene looks slightly warm, so I think the used master for the Super 8 release must be also a Fuji print and the color was on the one or two reels bad (faded, brownish), fortunately not in my print.

I have all three of the Star Wars, the original Derann release, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. All were bought from Derann, with the later two with German credits. Both the sound and picture are fine.

Mention of Raiders of the Lost Ark my copy suffers from lots of wow and flutter, the same with Last Crusade the image is fine.

Hi David,

perhaps the wow and flutter on INDY films is the result of bad re-recordings done with a not working well projector.

You could try to re-record them, even if the masters of the two film are full of splits/missing frames, indeed...

I bought my Last Crusade from Steve Osborne(Reel Image) and had the stereo sound recorded by someone in L.A. AND a top notch job on the sound. no flutter..no wow....just WOW!!

Your right they are the only 2 films that suffer. It seems as if when getting out of sync the projector was speed up or down. The picture is really great on both.

The only slight complaint with Empire is that it seems like there's almost a slight "wipe" (that's the only way I can describe it) to the image. You can see it in some of the screenshots, mostly the scenes on Hoth. Beyond that, top notch sharpness. Though I have a very good Empire part 1 digest now, (German version), there is nothing like seeing that chase through the asteroids in scope!

Is there a trick to this? I can't get either to respond to emails regarding sales after several attempts.

Steve Osborne of Reel Image told me the other day that he was going on vacation.

Does this German print have main and balance stripes?

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on June 13, 2015, 08:58 AM:

Yes, mine does. However you can order it anyway you like it. For example if you wanted it a bit cheaper and know how to sync to a dvd source for audio, then you can get away with not having any soundtrack put on. I have considered doing this with future film purchases.

Resurrecting an old thread, Empire is still available I just ordered it from Steve. After reading all the positive comments and viewing Adams pictures I cant wait to screen this one. Thanks guys!!

You're in for a treat Alan! The color's are gorgeously saturated, it looks GREAT on the big screen. One of those prints that makes me glad that I collect super 8 over other guages! That kind of quality in a super 8 scope frame!
