Bid and won on eBay two 30 min tv shows, two separate auctions.the seller listed 5.00 shipping on each item. I get a combined invoice and the seller wants to charge me 10.00 for media shipping for the said reels. Sound excessive to me. How much should be charged media mail for two tv shows probably 1200ft each? I emailed the seller and waiting for his reply. It seems to me he just want to recoup fees and low auction price with his inconsistencies in shipping on his many auctions listed.

You would expect that 2 items sent together would be cheaper than sent separately. He is probably charging extra to offset his Ebay and Paypal fees. Happens a lot in the UK.

I have just weighed a half-hour TV show on plastic spool in plastic can, and postage internally here in the UK by Royal Mail's Parcelforce Express 48 is £11.96 GBP which equates to US $19.23.

Sounds that postage rates in the US are much cheaper than here, even at the price you say the seller is quoting.

Paul Foster can send out a 16mm feature 3X 1600 spools for £12 by Parcelforce 48.

Media mail 7.00 for both. Ask for a combined shipping invoice.

There were TWO separate auctions. If the seller combines them into one shipping than he/she will ONLY have tracking for one package, leaving the other one open to a non-receipt claim.

Unfortunately, these are the realities of eBay.

The shipping is often too high. This is also the case for camera filmstock, when you buy it or when you have it back from a lab. Some labs ask more than 15 euros when they ship it abroad.

The seller adjusted shipping accordingly so all is good [Smile]

I don't know where a film fair is near I live

One of the things I have hated lately on Ebay is two-fold:

1.) They take their 'cut' from your total selling price, including shipping. Which means if you do not overcharge for shipping, you are losing money [Mad] Their FAQ solution is to offer free shipping and raise the price of the item....I'm no math major, but I would think that still equals the same 'cut' for them?

2.) They have the WORST calculations for shipping, esp UPS. I have my own business and ship with UPS daily, for well over 20+ years. I have my own boxes and packing supplies, but even factoring that as a freebie, I know EXACTLY what it will cost me the second I enter the info into Worldship (UPS Software). And it has never once been the same as Ebay, instead Ebay is ALWAYS cheaper (meaning it costs me out of pocket). Keep in mind I have a hiugh volume account with UPS so I pay less than if you go to the UPS Store...meaning average Joe gets screwed even more [Mad]

And for those who say stick with the US Post Office, I have still gotten screwed with miscalculations on that as well, and good luck filing a claim if you get a damage. You could lose 60 days or more getting it resolved. That's why I only send films UPS...and unfortunately I have to inflate the price to cover Ebay's miscalculations and their 'cut' as well -- double whammy to the buyer [Frown]

sometimes its ok to charge a little more for shipping and make higher price for the item you are selling. Ebay amd Paypal fees can get expensive and if you sell a high priced item then they charge a bundle. but when I see starting bid 12.00 and shipping 74.99 thats just crazy. I dont know what sellers are thinking that they can trick ebay into lower fees or trick the buyer.

A projector is advertised on Ebay France. The shipping cost for abroad are 75 euros but the seller added that for close countries, it is 20 euros (with another service than the post). 75 euros is of course exagerated.
