I'm looking at an ad for a Elmo 16AS. I can't find any info on the unit by searching the internet. Does anyone know anything about this model.

I have an Elmo 16-A which is very similar, although mine has optical and magnetic playback whereas the AS is only optical.

It's a very early 16mm auto-thread model from Elmo, very heavy, and is quite unique in that it has a fillable oil bath, the level of which is observed through a lit glass window with a red line indicating oil level when cold. The oil used is light sewing machine oil.

If you buy, make sure you can see it working, as at its age many things could be wrong with it, and spares are probably very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain.

My own opinion? Go for a later model.

Thanks. I think I'll pass on this one then.
