Good afternoon.

Please tell me how often one should clean their 16mm sound projector. Should you use a brush after every showing? Do you clean the rollers with Isopropel alcohol, (91%) after each showing?

What is the best way to keep the lens clean? Do you use a lens
cleaner such as a glass cleaner?

Many thanks for you help.

Hello Ronald,
You could get a different answer from every Forum member as there is no right or wrong answer. I clean my projector before every session not every reel. My aim is to keep dirt and dust away. I brush away dirt from the film path with a blower brush and remove stubborn deposits with a plastic toothpick or a clean cotton cloth. Never use a metal item. I seldom clean the lens as it's easy to cause tiny abrasions on the glass just keep it clear of dust with a clean cloth with a gentle touch. I hardly ever use liquids but alcohol sparingly used is suitable for the film gate and sprockets in seriously dirty cases. Don't get it on rubber rollers though.

I clean pretty much as Paul says, I also have air dusters (aerosol) to blow out all over, I do this after every reel then before I put the projector away after it's cooled, another quick clean, Mark
