Blimey Maurice, that's not a private collection, that's a national film archive
So said Andrew Woodcock recently when I said I have around 2500 films of which there are probably 1500 on 16mm.

A large proportion of my collection was obtained from three sources where "all had to go, no cherry-picking". A bulk price was agreed, two sellers were elderly and had suffered severe strokes, and the third was a son & daughter selling their deceased father's collection.

As the car was being loaded (two trips on two occasions) I could see that there would be many titles that I already had, so I was able to sell them on at a later date.

However, it does mean that I have some fabulous titles on 16mm which finally worked out at £1 each! And that includes 37 features.

Maurice, if you ever get duplicate Super 8mm poly low fade features for £1 each, you know where to offload them! [Big Grin] [Wink]

Maurice, given earlier messages you posted, it seems that you have been also lucky with 9.5 sound films. You should try the Euromillions :-) [Smile]

Yes, Dominique
I was lucky, as you say, with acquiring a 9.5mm sound collection a few years ago.
I have 178 titles, including 26 features. Some of them are French releases, one is "Partir Ou Mourir" 1937 (GS80036) which is a full-length version of "Edge Of The World" dubbed into French.

I have both versions. The first time I saw the Pathescope release I thought it was a sequel of the Pathé Baby one as the first scene, when they return to the island, doesn't appear in the French copy.

Vinyl and film reels share almost the same diameter size, only the ticknes are not.

Even 1500 vinyls (LPs) sound too much for me, I don't know how to store them.

A F/L 16mm is usually on 2 reels that equal to 10 vinyls, tick wise.

So basically you own 15,000 LP using that converter... [Eek!]

Not to mention your 8mm and 9.5mm films.

How do you store them, Maurice, if I can ask.

Cheers,

Winbert
My films are stored horizontally in cupboards, but mostly on tall racks.

Really really tall racks, I surmise! [Big Grin] [Wink]

Maurice's house...

You could not store Vinyl LPs vertically though as this would
damage them. [Wink] [Wink] [Wink]

Any similarity between my storage facilities and the BFI's at Berkhamsted is purely coincidental. [Smile]
