I saw it, but I had never think to do it by myself. I will try to do it next few days. I just need to find the right diameter and thickness of each roller.

I've used the method described above to replace a roller that went gooey on a CL (only one roller went bad?)Worked out well.

On mine, both 5 rollers are gooey... I bought silicone tube and will try as soon as I will receive it.

Why would you want to possibly damage your expensive films by this "do it yourself" method, when you can get excellent original Elmo specification replacements? Not worth the risk in my opinion...

I think that there is no more original elmo specification replacements. That's why all sellers ask to send them back the old rollers by making money refunds.
I asked to a professional in France to change them and he said me that he make it by himself directly on the projector. So...
But I will test it with a test print.

You can get new rollers using original Elmo specifications from HERE.

I'm surprised this works, as the plastic and rubber have different hardness and surface texture. Do they not "skid" over the film surface because of how shiny it is, plus the roundness issue would this not cause wow on the sound.

It's not made with plastic tube but silicone tube. The hardness and surface texture are not so much different with rubber. And it's possible to do it with rubber tube. Original rubbers are in fact in urethane. New ones than you can buy in professional shop are refurbished in urethane too I think.

On the site there are pictures of new rollers and 2 are black ( I think in urethane) and 2 are transparent. Is it made in silicone? Or ...

Edouard I don't know what the materials are, but you can contact Larry Urbanski directly for that info. I can say that I have bought these rollers and they are perfect. You can probably get other replacements that may or may not work. But Larry's rollers are 100% made to Elmo specs and the materials will not go "gooey" like the original rollers did.
