Hello all,
First of all, apologies in advance for just borrowing two images from the cinsea thread, if this is wrong of upsets anyone please feel free to delete them.

A fellow member asked me a question regarding scope lens brackets.
A bit of a topic for me this as i was very fortunate to have the Elf NT1 which is relatively easy to buy items and spares for.
We ourselves have a Sankor 16D scope lens. We originally bought his one years ago for use with super 8, 99% of the time i stuck with the Isco Cottingen lens that i already had so it got very little use.

Move on a few years when i decided to stay with 16mm rather than move it on we wanted one film in scope, Kidnapped, bought from Dave Guest & reviewed on here, i had the lens, (with 52mm barrel) but no scope bracket. I knew nothing of what i was meant to use so i tried various things that i had seen, made some forum enquiries and the Elf bracket came up from an ebay seller. The first one was wrong, too small for the barrel. Apparently the 16D Sankor with a 52mm barrel is quite rare. I dont know if thats true or not, perhaps someone can confirm that, so he exchanged it for me. What i like about this barrel is how its made to bolt onto the body of the projector and you simply swing it up when you need it as per my images here.

Now i found these images elsewhere that may be very basic but appear to do the job, obviously it has to have some weight behind it to prevent any shake.
What do you use a bracket on Elf, B & H or Elmo 16mm machines?

Whilst there's nothing wrong with fabricating scope brackets there's nothing better that the real thing.
My Bell & Howell anamorphic screws into the basic backing lens.
Both my Elmo and Elf projectors have the correct brackets. The Elf stays in situ and swings into operating position, and the Elmo just screws into the front of the projector and then swings into the beam from the backing lens.

Tom, If you mean "What do you use AS a bracket on Elf, B & H or Elmo 16mm machines?" I've always used the correct holders on my Elfs/Eikis, although it's important to keep in mind that what fits one model may well not fit another - E.g. the bar for an Eiki SNT does not work with a SSL. I once had a SL that surprisingly needed a plastic non-swing holder that could not be used on a NT, despite that being the autothread equivalent to the SL.

I'm not certain but I doubt if any 16mm projector in production in the 1980s or later does not have a means of attaching an 'official' scope lens holder. Some of these are extremely difficult to find now but Van Eck is helping by developing a range: https://shop.van-eck.net/film-projector-parts/anamorphic-lens-holders/p-1a/

I personally feel a free-standing lens holder is hopeless unless you don't move the projector and you have a convenient place to put it, neither of which applies to me.

Thanks for the replies. One thing i could never find for my old bell and howell tq was a scope bracket.i assume for those you use a bracket direct to the existing lens?
The one on my elf does work perfect.would love a swing up for the 1200hd i have but could never find one one.
When i had to buy the bigger bracket on the elf i wasnt too sure id be able to get the xover on for storage but fortunatly it does.

This is probably because the correct Bell & Howell anamorphic is designed to screw into the standard lens, such as the supplied 50mm (2 inch), although it does fit other focal lengths.
