I have noticed when using a 2000 take up spool for certain films that from halway onward the take up tension appeara poor and the film really sags, by the finish of the film it can be a good inch or more hanging below the reel. Not good.
I have xhecked everything but cant find a fault. If i use 1600 reels it seems fine. The 2000ft spool i use is a tuscan with a decent size core. Any ideas please?

The service manual lists seven answers to poor/no take-up. The most possible one listed in this case is "excessive grease on take-up pulley".
The film could be warped but if the film takes up OK on the 1600 it seems unlikely unless the 1600 is a heavy metal spool such as a Cecol.

Thank you Maurice. I have just re greased thinking this was the problem. i am wondering if the cork lining on the inside of the spindle is worn. do you know if these cork lined spindles can be bought anywhere?

Most likely the cork has smoothed off over the years Tom - when new a tiny amount of LM grease should be applied to the cork then wiped off with a dry cloth just enough to allow a little slippage - I have some cork sheet here 'somewhere' you could cut into a strip and use as a new cork liner.
The fun bit will be removing the original cork with a sharp craft knife.
One thing you can try for now is simply clean the cork and the metal drive hub with IPA and run it dry. It will still slip but try it first with a full 2200ft reel and see what happens when you hold the reel edge with your fingers.
