I just finished watching an excellent 16mm uncut complete print of the original 1933 KING KONG classic and this question came to me .

Did you cry at the end when Kong died ?

I first remember seeing this on T.V. , in 1959 , I was 5 years old.

My older sister , who was 12 at the time , began crying as King Kong caressed Fay Wray and was gunned down and toppled from the Empire State building .

I didn't understand why she was crying . This was supposed to be a monster movie !

So watching this today actually brought tears to my eyes as I remembered that day in 1959 and realized that beauty DID kill the BEAST and how we ALL need this NOW more than ever .

I had the Super8 print of this film when we watched it one night. My son Steven was very young at the time and got upset at the ending, I think he thought it was cruel. I never put that film on again and later sold it. Even though he is now in his 30s I don't think he would watch it.

I've always hated the ending of king Kong movies. Was so glad when the last one came out and Kong finally won in the end! Showed my boys the original on super 8 last year, and they hated the ending too.

Bringing back fond memories David.

The first time we projected Son of Kong to my son he was loving the film but when we reached the sad ending poor boy was sobbing for some time after it ended. Even now decades later he still remembers that screening.

I remember seeing this on TV for the first time when i was a kid in the early 1960s.

Yes i did get a bit upset at the end but can't remember crying but i did get a bit angry with those biplane pilots.
