Hi people I'm new here!! I bought a Bell & Howell TQIII Specialist 16mm projector so that I can view some movies belonging to a guy in our local history group. I didn't pay a lot for it, but i'm disappointed in that it won't run. Wonder if you have any ideas please? The lamp comes on, the worm gear moves a little if I switch from forward to reverse, but other than that nothing. I have uploaded some images. The worm gear looks in good shape. The motor spindle is turning okay. Is the belt too narrow? It is quite slack. What is the function of the large grey wheel that freely rotates to the left? Hope not too many questions..
Am I limited to just one photo per post?

Welcome to the Forum Ian! Just from your brief description I would start by replacing the motor belt. If it is too loose it won't turn the pulleys or gears.

I'd just have to tighten the grub screw on that pulley!

-and it's true, that belt and pulley were never meant for each other.

I would suggest that the lubrication has dried out and the motor is unable to drive the mechanism, hence the belt looking in a decidedly odd position.

I am sure you can put at least 5 pictures in each post.

Ian, you may need to switch browsers to post multiple photos. I had to switch from Microsoft Edge to Internet Explorer to do it...

Thanks for all your replies. The gears look very well lubricated although maybe dry in places I can't see. I saw a youtube video of the same machine and the belt looked wider. It looks too narrow for the pulley to me. I'm going to replace it as suggested and try again. Its a remarkable piece of equipment. Makes my other 8mm look like a toy! I'll keep you posted. Thanks again..

ian, if you can locate the shutter blade. just infront of it is a felt cam wick. try putting a couple of drops of oil on it. this sometimes dries out completely.

Ian
Your belt looks the correct size, but is not vertical as it should be.
