I really love the Margaret Rutherford films especially the Miss Marple films where she played along side her husband (great duo). If anyone has anything for sale I would be interested.

Impossible to know without actually seeing and smelling the print. Why not fire off a question or two to the seller and see what they say. They have specified VS though in the listing.
I don't recognise the seller.

Mind you, if it is VS, theres no reason why the film won't play well for a few more years - depending on how far on the process is. Depends on whether or not you want to pay for a VS print or not.

This seller has dealt with forum members in the past through ebay and seems to be an honest seller who can recognise VS and has priced the film accordingly. Also he has not tried to mask the condition with camphor and other snake oils. My worry would be if the VS was to spread onto other valuable films in your collection. If there is any truth in this phenomena occuring, either through being stored nearby your other prints or through your projector as some people have stated, then it could prove to be a very costly transaction.

To be honest, I'm not really convinced that VS is transmissable - but, the jury is still out on it, so, it might be best to err on the side of caution as Paul says.

VS certainly cannot be transmitted through the projector.

It may be possible that it can be transmitted through close proximity - but that isn't certain. I had a print come in once that was on three reels, in three separate cans. It had been composited from two different prints. The stock from one of the prints (mixed into all three reels) had gone completely vinegar, shrunk beyond any possible projection. The remainder of the stock, from the other print, was perfect and ran with no problem...

Personally I would keep vinegar prints away from other prints just to be on the safe side.

And if you are worried about your projector, just clean it with film cleaner or denatured alcohol after projecting a VS print...

To Kevin: I would assume that the print really does have vinegar.

Am very undecided about it. I have had a reply and he says it's not a strong smell and there is no sign of warpage etc.

If it was myself I would probably leave it unless its a title I stood little chance of ever picking up anywhere else.

I'm not really sure how rare these Rutherford titles are. I've seen one or two show up now and then in the US. Steve Sigel would have more of an idea on rarity or otherwise.

Crikey I wouldn`t touch it with a barge poll Kev, the one VS I kept for a while ended up going very fast.
There will be other good ones about Kev.
Personally I think a VS print should be a postage only cost at the most.

If the title with VS is rare then a cost for the print is justified, I think.

If its a title which is pretty easy to get - then, I agree, postage only would be more appropriate.

The Rutherford Marples are around but they're not super common..

However, they're available on DVD (Amazon has a box set for £14.97), so it would seem a bit foolhardy to spend any real money on a print that might not even run. You will eventually find nice prints if you keep watching...

I think any print with VS is a non seller, if I bought a print of any film at all and it went at some point I`d either throw or give it away.
Theres a lot of sqweezing the pips in the hobby and so much selling things on with faults knowingly on the sneaky.
Hell I bought a 16mm TQ1 from a proper cine engineer in Northumberland he said was fabulous and he had just installed a new platic tufnel worm so ran lovely etc etc.
Well set her up and switched her on and yes, old cracked worm and all hell on as really gone. Theres a funny mentality in the this hobby oft times a little like shifty car sales men.

But Steven who is a great 16mm seller is about as far away from that and as good as you can get.

I`d wait to see if you can bag a print of someone like Steve Kev, but the DVDs do sound good.
Currys or either comet in the UK are doing the full HD ready Samsung 40" LCD TV for £550 now and probaly interest free too so maybe worth a look for stuff thats hard to get on real film.

I bought the Warner 4 DVD Box set from Amazon some time ago. It is excellent but it would have been truly excellent if they had put some extras on one of the disks. Not even the trailers were on it. [Frown]

Always bugs me when the trailers are`nt on Paul, they are for me a must and an important part of the film and its marketting etc, also often so well crafted etc.

PS the UK BR or dvd`s of Casino Royale don`t have any of the trailers on as far as I know, very odd.
