I love it! -especially the description shown.

Twenty and thirty years ago people avoided "home movies" like a trip to the gallows, but now you call it "historical" or "sociological", put it on E-bay and they pay a ton for it.

If they'd labeled it "a stunning indictment of Western Culture" somebody on a government grant at a major university would have paid a thousand!

I guess when it's somebody else's home movies you can cast whatever meaning you want on it. When it's your family you know that "Uncle Joe" was just a pretty good guy that worked hard and eventually died in a nursing home. It's meaningful, but personal..not profound.

The lady across the street filmed the Beatles on Ed Sullivan off the screen and accidentally double exposed it on her kids splashing in the kiddie pool. I shall put it on E-bay, call it "A lament on the status of the artist in popular culture" and probably retire on the final price.

I have to say that I couldn't believe that someone would give a 50ft reel of film such a long description. Having said that I'm sure its been done to make sure that just about any search on ebay would pick up a word or two and include the film in the search result.

BTW Guys can we please keep the ebay items in the sticky thread at the top of the Yak section.

ya know whenever I try to look at that sticky ebay thread it always shows the oldest thread and its more of a pain to see the new posts, so I actually just like them as individual threads, no offense to any of the mods.

Eric has made a good point! Also, how would you know the Stooges thread was there(because you do not see the subject title in the main category) unless you happen across it while scanning eBAy oddities. [Smile]

Keep a watch on this one too(same seller). It is home movie footage of Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum filming River Of No Return at Banff in British Columbia;

Well....any new or different footage...ANY....of cult figures like the Stooges is going to be highly sought after. We've seen old films taken from the audience of Broadway plays ..which at the time were nothing but someone's home movie...but when discovered 40 to 50 years later, were valuable records of performances that were otherwise lost forever, except in the memories of whatever audience members might still be alive. These films have shown up in various documentaries,etc.... these fair appearances by the Stooges were once in a lifetime chances to see how the boys worked the live audience. It's really not surprising that that little film sold so well. I'd love to have a video or film of one of their live appearances. ( Ed Sullivan appearances notwithstanding).
