Any Alice Faye fans out there? I just picked up the newly released DVD box set of four of Alice's best movies. And what a set it is! The included films, in slimline cases, are 'Lillian Russell, 'On the Avenue', 'That Night in Rio', and 'The Gang's all Here'.

Alice was not only a great looking woman but she had a uniquely beautiful singing voice, and of course her movies are showcases for some of the best songs ever written. In fact most of the great song writers regarded Alice as the best female singer in Hollwood, and were always anxious to get her to launch a new song. For anyone who is not familiar with Alice, I would recommend taking a new look at some of her 1940's Fox musicals. They all have one thing in common (besides the beautiful Alice herself), lots of fun with some great co-stars such as Don Ameche, Ty Power, Caesar Romero, or John Payne, and of course the 'Brazillian Bombshell' Carmen Miranda, great music and dance, stunning saturated Technicolor ( makes todays color films look like black and white!), and always a happy ending. You will always end a Faye film with a smile on your face!

That's a great box set.
My favorite Alice Faye films
are Tin Pan Alley and
Alexanders Rag Time Band.

These are not in glorious Technicolor
as in the box set that you had featured,
but great Black and White classics too.

Fox did make great Technicolor Musicals.
Three Little Girls in Blue is not
an Alice Faye starring feature, but it
is great Fox Technicolor musical.

As you mentioned these films boast
big named Fox stars.

Tin Pan Alley co-stars beautiful
Betty Grable, and are they a team !
Leading Man: John Payne,
Sidekick Jack Oakie, comedic Allen Jenkins,
and Billy Gilbert as the Sheik of Araby.
Top this off with the incomparable
The Nicholas Brothers performing the greatest
split jumps on the staircase.
