If you are interested in films from the 1960's and 1970's I can thoroughly recommend a magazine called "CINEMARETRO". This magazine is 64 colour pages of film fact, interviews and aricles relating to that era. I have not seen a mag like this for a long time. There are no advertisements, just loads and loads of reading.

The mag is produced and designed by Dave Worrall and Lee Pffeifer, with regular contributions from actors Christopher Lee, Richard Kiel, Maddie Smith, Roger Moore to name but a few.
Dave was the editor, for a long time, on "Film for the Collector",from Derann, before going freelance. He is a James Bond and Clint Eastwood fanatic and produced the excellent "Extras" programmes on the James Bond DVDs.
It makes a refreshing change to find a magazine that can be READ, from cover to cover, without having to "skip" 50% of it because of adverts.
I must point out that, as mags go, it's not the cheapest in the world, with only 3/4 issues a year. [Frown] This is because it is not subsidised by adverts). The good news is that the print runs are limited, it is only sold at selected "specialist" outlets and is mainly available by subsciption. This, in my opinion, makes it a "collectable" item which should increase in value over the years. [Big Grin]
I am sorry if this post seems like an "advert" (I can assure you I am not on commission). I just feel that something this good should be shared with fellow film enthusiasts. I have subscribed to a great many film related magazines over the years and it seems that the best ones have always "gone to that great re-cycle plant in the sky" (like Movie Maker, Movie Collector, etc), due to lack of interest and/or sales.
The current mags (Empire, Total Film and Film Review etc) are all "much of a muchness" - they all carry the same articles and reviews. What makes CINEMARETRO different is that it not only concentrates on a particular era in films, but it also covers up to date items as well.
I cannot praise it enough (as you've probably gathered by now) Have a look and see what you think? [Smile]

PS - I spoke with Dave Worrall yesterday and he tells me that Back Issue copies are still available, at the moment, but are getting less and less by the day. CinemaRetro will not be doing any "print re-runs" of Back Issues, so get 'em while you can.

Just thought I would let you all have an update on an excellent magazine "CINEMA RETRO". They have just released an 80 page "special edition" about the making of "Where Eagles Dare". It is a limited edition of 5000 copies and if you are a fan of this "boys own" action movie then it is well worth the purchase. It contains some rare articles and photographs about the film.

P.S. I have no links with this magazine other than I subscribe and enjoy each and every issue. [Smile]

Hey Keith,
how are you? Any news about your articles? Don't forget to let me know.
My book about Disney's features won't be edited before September (what a piece of news!) but a copy will be sent to you as soon as I have some.
Thanks for posting the link to CINEMARETRO: it's always great to find such spaces on the web.
Hugs to you and P.

Hi Gian. Thanks for that - every Movie fan should subscribe to this magazine, it really is great value.

I hope to have some news about one of the articles in August when I meet up with the editor, Dave Worrall, at Pinewood Studios. The other article is going in the next issue of the FFTC.

Good news about the book - looking forward to it.

When I get 5 minutes I'll PM you. Thanks for your good wishes for P.

Ciao.

Of course, Dave Worrall used to work at Derann too. That's why I subscribed from the first issue of CinemaRetro and thanks to the quality of the product I've stayed a subscriber ever since.

Given that it's a magazine devoted to 60's and 70's cinema I think an article all about Super 8 in its heyday must appear one day. Imagine all those beautiful box cover artworks reproduced on those lovely CinemaRetro glossy colour pages. Yum Yum!

Hi John. I have submitted an artcle about that very subject. Unfortunately, it would appear that other "more interesting" articles have come along to prevent mine from being published, so far. However, I am assured by Dave Worrall that it should "appear" in an issue, in "a galaxy far, far away", sometime in the future.

I will try to get confirmation of this when I ses Dave at Pinewood Studios, in August.

Just thought I would resurrect this thread about 'Cinema Retro'

I've just bought a few back issues that I had missed, plus 'Where Eagles Dare' revised edition & 'Dr No' special edition. They are all well worth buying.

The 'Where Eagles Dare' special for me is the best. When you see some of the behind the scenes shots and NO CGI thank heaven.
