They had the son of the man who shot these on the set of the "Misfits" (he was an extra in the barroom scene, but he had access throughout the whole filming), on the Todays show this morning.

It was shot on 8mm film. From what I saw on the "Today show",
it still has pretty decent color, (though some of it is over-exposed) It is on two 400ft reels and it's supposed to go up for auction (not ebay) and I'm betting that it's going to go for thousands upon thousands of dollars.

Talk about buying a new house! I mean, heck, someone years ago paid rediculous thousands of dollars for Monroe's pap smear!

(I swear that's the truth!)

The fact that it comes with the copyright so it can be sold to various documentaries certainly makes it very valuable. I love the Misfits so it's great to see the footage. Marilyn looks so beautiful even with no special studio lighting. It's great this "lost" footage is on super 8, too, of course. It's too bad more of Marilyn's films were not put out on super 8. Can someone post a list of what's available? I know of "There's No Business Like Show Business" from Ken but what other digests are there? I used to have a beautiful 16mm print of "Marilyn" - the tribute collection of clips hosted by Rock Hudson. I regret selling it and I wish it was available on DVD.

Yes, saw it on the news here. It would be Std 8mm footage. Several years ago some footage of Marilyn and Robert Mitcham behind the scenes of River Of No Return appeared too.

Marilyn films on Super 8 include:

There's No Business Like Show Business - Ken
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Ken
The Seven Year Itch - Ken (one of my favourites bought new in 1979)

I also sent away for information on a Some Like It HOt trailer back in the early 1980's, but the letter was returned. I know it has been available since then, but I don't have it.

I remember at one time there was a scope short that had the whole "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend" Number. Interesting in that the original film this was taken from, was not in scope.

It was actually from a documentary about Monroe from the mid sixties, and that WAS in scope. Wish I still had that. It was slightly dark in picture, however, but at least a decent focus.

What would be utterly fascinating is to have as many people who worked on these movies cull together their respective "home-movies" in 8mm for a retrospective screening at a showcase expo. I mean, as many films that were made behind the scenes of as many films as there were, know what I mean? - Caught the TODAY segment. Seems that while they were cavorting a bit and caught on camera, they were giving a little show to the extra player for his family to see years after they left us. Sort of leaving a little extra on camera

Marilyn appeared briefly with the Marx Brothers in "Love Happy", which is available as a feature in Super 8mm. An old catalog shows a Monroe documentary (possibly from Regent or Official Films) was released in a 200' silent version.

Reel Images also released "Marilyn Monroe Screen Test", a 1950 test she did opposite Richard Conte. Super 8mm sound.

Boy, that 200ft "documentary" must move along like a fast moving freight train!

Hi,

I remmember that we have once discussed about the amateur clip of Marilyn Monroe sold at Ebay for $1170. The link is here.

I cannot get the access to the above link to verify if it is the same item.

If it is so...then from $1170 to $60 grants .... [Eek!]

I do also remember the seller on that Ebay link provide some screen shot where showing Marilyn changes the clothes.

cheers,
