Karl Malden, has passed away. He was aged 97.Amongst his many films the titles that stand out for praise are Patton, Nevada Smith, One Eyed Jacks, The Cincinatti Kid and On the Waterfront, for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

He also starred in the long-running hit TV series The Streets of San Fracisco, along with Michael Douglas. He was adept at playing the part of either the good guy or the villian, with equal zest.

Great actor.
Very bad piece of news, Keith (hope you are right, and P. too).
THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISO was a MUST at tv, when I was a little kid.

Karl was wonderful. I may just have to dig out my print of "On the Waterfront" to hear him rail against injustice again.

He could do righteous indignation better than just about anyone.

Claus.

Karl Malden was the best of the best. Watch him in "All Fall Down". A stark real life portrayal of 1950's Americana.

I first saw him in the film BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE.

A Pro, and true class act.
They do not build them like this any longer.

He said he had the only nose in Hollywood that qualified him for a handicap parking permit. [Big Grin]

I'm sure that Jimmy Durante would have something say about that!

Hot cha cha cha chaah!

Osi, I think you're right. Durante probably had a discrimination suit or discriminating taste or something like that.

Its ironic that most young people today would only him by his "American Express" ads, much like those who only would know Orson Welles from the "Paul Masson Wines" ads.

Still, 97 years is a good long life!
