Hi All,

You may or may not have seen this sad news: Abbey Road is up for sale.

The home of the Beatles, the home of so many classic recordings and of many film soundtracks.
Basically, no one knows what will happen. Will the facility be sold and continued as a studio, or (heaven forbid) get turned into condos [Frown]
I am just an amateur musician, but the idea of that legendary place being destroyed is, to me, just obscene.

The National Trust is considering saving Abbey Road. They are collecting e-mails from people worldwide.

Here is the address; it wouldn't link directly. Please write in:

abbeyroad@nationaltrust.org.uk

Below is a copy of what I wrote to them:
(Quote):

To Whom it May Concern,

The recent announcement about Abbey Road studios being for sale is ominous news indeed. Not because studios haven't been sold before, but because of the implications in today's economy.

The very thought that one of the most important facilities in the history of recorded music could conceivably be sold to someone who will shut it down is disgraceful, for so many reasons.

Please act now, before it is too late. Step in and rescue this priceless space so it may be preserved for future generations, both as the place where the Beatles worked their magic, and as an example of one of the last "large rooms" in the world where so many fine film scores have been recorded.

Sincerely,

Claus Harding,
C.H.A. Productions,
Washington DC.

(End Quote).

Claus.

Claus, this is sad news. It would make an interesting museum and I'm sure people from all over the world would visit.

I visited RCA's Studio 'B' in Nashville back in the 1990's. Being a musician I was very surprised at the magic Chet Atkins worked with early mono machines and over dubbing. Abbey Road must have a fantastic history also.

So why was Paul barefoot?

I think it was because he didn't have any shoes on. But, there are many who think that reason to be too far-fetched!

Michael,

Honestly, I never thought of that. That is epitome of a logical perspective. [Big Grin] After all, the lads were in their shabby attire days. Maybe Paul was trying not to conform to the others. Johns genetic disposition could never let him be like anyone else, but Paul had to work at it, hence the feet. [Big Grin]

George Martin was the fifth Beatle. His knowledge of sound recording was far superior.

What always puzzled me was why, when John and George are clearly wearing white footwear, Ringo chose to wear black footwear when he could quite easily have also chosen white???

Michael,

That's easy! Ringo was the last minute replacement for Pete Best. Ringo was the black sheep. [Cool]

Did you know if you play Helter Skelter backwards on 45rpm you can hear John calling for Opie Taylor? [Big Grin]

....Hmmmmm....or could it be that John and George conspired not to tell Ringo that morning that they were going to wear white shoes, thereby causing Ringo to wear the wrong colour?

It could be! They were know as cut ups and pranksters or was it the dissension in the band?
