When I thought of the wonderful idea of making my Top 25 Animations I thought it would be a pretty easy decision process. It started out easy with my top 5 or so movies then when started to lay out the rest on the table it got a little harder. After making my list I revised it a bit and I asked my roommate Jonathan (Who I call Jonny) if I could do my top 50 and he said “Nobody is going to read that.” I thought “I would” but he was right and I had to keep the list at 25.

As a film student I do have some connection with the animation department at my school (Huntington University) and if I had a better talent of drawing cartoons (or things out of my head) I would. But alas I am going to stick with the Film Production Major even though I have the deepest respect and loyalty for animators. This list is compiled of my favorite Animated Feature Films not the Best Animated Feature Films. If I made a best of list, it would be totally different. I will try to post Five every day.

Am following this list, Grant. I like what you are doing by picking your favorites rather than the best. This reminds me of Tarantino's lists which include the movies he likes and not the usual best movies that everyone else has agreed upon.

Will stop-motion be included?

My roommate said the exact same thing about favorites over best. The reason I made my blog is to do things that were personal to me. I mean there are enough Best Animated Film lists out there that are made by more educated people then myself.

And yes about the stop motion, wait until my next update!

UPDATE 3!

One of my favorites, (though not in the top two), is "The Rescuers Down Under", and it certainly ranks as the best sequel ever made. In some ways, I think it tops the first film. That first ten minutes is, (in my opinion) one of the most uplifting sequences in the film with that "Cody" flying on the back of the giant eagle.

... oh, and a magnificent job on the animation of the eagle, as they really captured the mannerisms and movements of a real eagle. Amazingly good animation.

Nice list, Gerald!

Presented here in the style of Letterman:

"Top 10 Animation features as picked by me!"

Number 10: Tangled (2011)
Number 9: The Aristocats (1961)
Number 8: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)
Number 7: Finding Nemo (2003)
Number 6: Fantasia (1940)
Number 5: Up! (2009)
Number 4: The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Number 3: Winnie-the-Pooh (1977)
Number 2: Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kawikakushi) (2001)

aaaaand the Number One Animation film as picked by me....

THE LION KING! (1994)

I grew up with this film, as I was only four when it came out, and I have an old VHS of it that is worn to shreds! When it came out of BluRay I was first in line at the local video store, and have since watched it several times. The best animated film ever made, hands down!

Quite interesting. I always felt that 'Lion King" was a lesser effort, but it's all (or mostly) about particular tastes.

You're right there Osi, not being a fan of the modern Disneys
I much prefer the old stuff like "Snow White","Pinocchio""Bambi"
etc where every frame of those films could be hung on a wall.
My own favourite of these would be Dave Fleischer's "Gullivers
Travels".Regarding the modern films I think "Ice Age"series"Shrek"
"Corpse Bride" and "Coraline" would be my choices.

Most interesting choice, Hugh!

I prefer "Hoppity Goes to Town" (originally titled, "Mr. Bug Goes to Town"), which has the unfortunate release date of ...

December 7th 1941, incredibly bad timing.

I felt that "Bug" fit the Fleischer school of animation with a much better fit than 'Gulliver". Actually, "Gulliver" was Max's pick as he had been a lifelong fan of that book. What is quite surprising, is that I once read that the thought was tossed about within the studio casting Popeye as Gulliver, but Segar (creator of Popeye) wanted very large royalties for the use of Popeye in a feature and they couldn't work it out ...

But, could you just imagine if Popeye had been Gullver?

Most cool.

Another storyline that they could have made a feature but they chose to make a color special was Raggedy Ann and Andy, which might have made for a very good feature as well.

Yes I certainly agree "Hoppity" is a great little film, the only snag
is after I've screened it, I'm singing the bloody songs for days afterwards.I'm still trying to get my head round Popeye as
Gulliver.
