In this day and age we get used to CGI films etc, every so often its nice to reflect back and watch some of those old films. If you get a chance to view them add "The Magggie" 1954 to the list. Although its not as well known as many of the other Ealing films, it is well worth looking out for.

The Maggie, it was well known in its day as a puffer...still is.

I really enjoyed the "doom and gloom" nothing works, lets abandon ship from the engineer.

I have never come across "The Maggie" on film in any format Super8 or 16mm which is a pity, anyway its one of my favourite Ealing films...do you have one?

i have a 16mm print of this film in mint condtion and you are right its a great film

It would have been nice had they given it the Technicolor treatment like "The Titfield Thunderbolt", which like the "Maggie" a lot of the film was shot outdoors. With the wonderful scenery of the West Coast of Scotland the Maggie would have looked great.

I like the introduction which shows a map of Scotland, a pipe and a empty glass, which really should have had some Whisky in it [Big Grin]

There are plenty of elements to "The Maggie" from the comedy side to the serious. I understand Paul Douglas was a very popular actor at the time he made it. The film was well directed by Alexander Mackendrick.
